I vote that Firemodel should put himself in voluntary exile and treat himself as persona non grata from Guitar Central until January 2012. He can lurk but refrain from posting. Because unless he decides to follow through on his "paghahamon" he will only be generating hostility every time he posts on any topic. Every time he will post something that is consistent with the way he previously posts, someone will always refer to this challenge and immediately veer the topic away from the thread as seen in the previous thread.

Again the stakes are, (and I add nothing ha): 1. A donation to cover PhilMusic's Pro Webhosting for a year, this is about $240USD. I already have this to release, if ever I lose. I can put this up on ESCROW with say the owner of PM, he can use it right after the duelo. 2. Your sig for a year regardless of how many PM accounts you own should read "PANGIT TONE KO, PANGIT AKO" in Red, Bold and 20pt size font.... pwede
I leave it to the community how to determine the victor, but this must be set before the day of the duelo. Huwag ng i-complicate para matuloy.

Plus, I love guitars, wouldn't like to destroy one. Although any guitar in Firemodel's hands is practically destroying the guitar.

Anyway, I've been out and made arrangements with a friend of mine who owns a bar in Q.C. and told him to reserve May 11, 18 and 25 for me and hold it until after Holy Week or until someone else reserves any of the dates whichever comes first.
Ano Mr. Firemodel, venue is set? Malapit lang sa bahay mo 'to. (Which reminds me of another bar na masmalapit sa inyo, masmaliit. Sa Route 196 mas-intimate kilala ko rin owner, I'll check with him tomorrow kung kelan pwede mag-prod, kung gusto mo?)

er, how does one win...and who decides who wins or loses? Dapat blind ang voters/judges sa lahat ng factors, gear + players, kahit for the first 10-20 mins lang. Otherwise, talo na talaga si FM55 kahit sumabog pa mga utak ng mga tao dahil sa ganda ng tone niya. Plus, from reading the posts of both participants, I doubt either one would admit the other has better tone.

I vote that Firemodel should put himself in voluntary exile and treat himself as persona non grata from Guitar Central until January 2012. He can lurk but refrain from posting. Because unless he decides to follow through on his "paghahamon" he will only be generating hostility every time he posts on any topic. Every time he will post something that is consistent with the way he previously posts, someone will always refer to this challenge and immediately veer the topic away from the thread as seen in the previous thread.

As for this being a comedy show, it actually IS one. The thread title says so. The discussions so far, doesn't define it as any more than what it is.
As far as FM55's "history" here is concerned, everybody regards him as a joke. I wouldn't know about gobots, he's fairly new.

In one of those flaming hot GC threads in July/Aug 2007, hinamon ako ni firemodel55 sa shootout. I agreed to the challenge. But then he set a date many months ahead, Dec 30/31, 2007, with matching full production, sound engineers, catering (di ako kasali sa bilang. LOL!), voting by palakpak, etc. Knowing it was Xmas holiday season and I surely have better things to do with my family, and was sure that the other parties he wanted to be involved (ie, Arie and Lito) would have plans with their families on those dates also, I disagreed on that date. I proposed and offered alternative dates. Actually, I was gigging actively at the time and gave him an open invite to come to the gig with his gear and we can do it then. He never showed and I never accepted that Dec 30 schedule he proposed. As he keeps saying, he does it on his own terms and his own rules only. Better believe him (so TS and others: all that whining about when, where, and how you wanna do it is all for naught).
Weeks after waiting for him to show up on my gigs, I realized I didn't want to be part of the 'circus' anymore. Indeed, I had nothing to prove to him or others. I'm happy with who I am and what I have, and I don't need validation from others, especially someone like firemodel55 who's not even into the same music as I am. In hindsight, I think it was foolish pride that got me involved in the first place. But I checked myself just in time. The local products may not be the best but atleast we are proud of what we have and are able to make good music out of it.

I remember those threads. Tagal na pala. Those were some low (granted, they were pretty exciting) days in Philmusic.

I have nothing to prove here, I've already stated several times that I cannot play guitar to save my life. But I will show up.
Take it this way, you know how in a group the one who talks too much about sex and screwing chicks are usually those with a lot of fail stories with women and are usually the ones who you don't invite to come along on 'play' nights simply because they'll ruin your game and you'll all end up with fail stories at the end of the night. That's Firemodel55 with his gear and I simply called him that. He's the guy that even if he had the meanest car, hindi mo pa rin isasama pang-chicks dahil pati ikaw hindi makakadali pagnagsimula na syang magsalita dahil chances are mababadtrip yung ipapartner mo sa kanya at dyahe na yung buong gabi.
He got mad and in his fury, challenged me to a weiner show off. I'm happy with my weiner, he felt I was belittling his weiner (which I was). So here we are on the "Pangit Tone Ko. Pangit Ako." thread.

Call it a circus. Call it a show. May or may not push through. May or may not bring benefit. But if someone asks to see my weiner, how can I not indulge? Wouldn't you?

The local products may not be the best but atleast we are proud of what we have and are able to make good music out of it.
If I may interject, and you can correct me if I was hearing it wrong; firemodel's single note "hiyaw" playing did not do the Baker any justice (especially not with his finger waving after each "wah." I've heard guitars and good guitar players during gigs, and in his hands, the Baker sounded like a cheap "Gilraon" (his word, not mine).
Sure, having a top quality guitar has its advantages, and it does score pogi points, but, once a real guitar player fingers a guitar, the guitar itself no longer seems to matter. On the other hand, not even the best and most expensive guitar will sound good if the one playing it can't...

I think its the player and the gear. It's 50/50.

Sir, yes the player needs his gear. But the exercise proves that even without the gear he can still "make his tone come out of his mouth or something".
Because tone is indeed subjective. To each his own. So tone starts in a person's head translated to the gear. No player, no tone. No gear present, player still has tone in mind.

kung sa kin lang... good player + good gear + good song/piece = good music parang tripod lang. pag mahina ang isa tagilid na lahat...
I kinda agree, not to discount the advantages of a good gear setup, but this would also contradict "The tone is subjective" part somewhat. For me, a good guitar player can make a good song still sound good even with a not so good gear. I can appreciate a "pulubi player" with a smashed amp and/or a "lata" sounding guitar on the streets of Manila (or elsewhere).

The tripod concept is a personal dream/goal. I see the varying heights of the three legs (skill, gear, and creativity) as the status bar of my musical growth and journey. I remember playing a piece using a Kramer Raon, Arion tube-something pedal and karaoke combo from 16 years ago then playing the same piece on a brand new N2 (extremely road worn now) with a Zoom 3030 plugged to a fender bullet amp 2 years after that (complete with the same mistakes) and notice a significant difference (positive) on both the sound and my performance. I still play the same piece occasionally using a fender guitar on a tube combo but with different mistakes these days. (corporate jobs/lack of practice kills dexterity but the upside is more cash for nicer equipment) I think I sound better on most parts these days (even without practice) since the piece 'matured' on me. The simple choice of playing that piece (being an awesome/popular one) also makes me sound better than I really am on most if not all occasions. (I NEVER mastered it) The concept also works on what gear I use and on how I look and act during a performance. It depends on who's watching or listening. We all know that there are people who 'listens' to the brand of gear, what clothes are worn, the hair color, the venue of the performance, etc... (there's more if we go into details)
The 3rd leg - creativity, has changed a lot over the years. Back then, it's just adding my personal touch to guitar solos to writing medleys for my former variety band then progressed to arranging/recording/mixing my own songs today. (and some projects by people who approached me for help when I have spare time) I have a few songs ready (which I hope is a lot better than a 'doctor's' work a 'few' threads back) but still think I could do better the more I travel this road. I think I have more than enough quality for my guitar needs at the moment but its not stopping me from getting stuff that I may or may not even need. Maybe I just don't have enough toys when I was a kid and I'm trying to catch up. Whatever...
I believe the taller and stronger the the three legs - the better, believes that it's best that the legs are of the same height for the structure to be strong but at the same time believes that good music can be made ALMOST regardless of the quality of all three. (quality must STILL come from somewhere) I think that dream/goal is achieved once I make a song that's good regardless of where its played, what equipment is used and who's playing it. If that's not a tall enough order, regardless of who listens to it. Realistically, I don't think it can be done at least not by me, but then again, music is full of surprises.
By the way, gusto ko yung gitarita na nasa EDSA/Quezon Avenue overpass. Napapahinto ako kapag dumadaan doon sa pwesto nya.

I believe the taller and stronger the the three legs - the better, believes that it's best that the legs are of the same height for the structure to be strong but at the same time believes that good music can be made ALMOST regardless of the quality of all three. (quality must STILL come from somewhere) I think that dream/goal is achieved once I make a song that's good regardless of where its played, what equipment is used and who's playing it. If that's not a tall enough order, regardless of who listens to it. Realistically, I don't think it can be done at least not by me, but then again, music is full of surprises.
Hence, subjective. Everyone would basically have different "leg heights" after all. One would have to compensate for that by balancing the weight. The thing is, if one doesn't have the skill to begin with, no good gear or good song can compensate. Skill is paramount to you tripod; the more skilled one is, the better tone once can achieve regardless of gear. When one's gear equal's one's skill, then one can say that he has reached his apex. A bad song is a bad song regardless, but, then again, song quality is also subjective to a general consensus.

Like I mentioned a few posts earlier, fm55's finger waving, single-note "hiyaw" playing did not do the Baker justice. Fids (who was a former student of AJ, X2M's guitarist) made a parody of it (which is actually redundant since people consider fm55 a JOKE), and THAT sounded better.

i had the same sentiments back then, the baker even the b1's, ed roman b1+ and the b3's looked weird(body contours) and fm55's demo didnt even help my curiosity of the gear..it just seemed like an overpriced popsicle stick, but then vids from Vhunter showcased it differently..yes in the hands of a capable player its more inspiring..and then the video from A2C playing his baker b1 now that is really cool..also robben ford and scott lerner..
so yeah i got a b1+, i paid pennies for it compared to what edroman prices it..and thats good..lol, anyway i like alot..its just a tool and a different one compared to some of the stuff i have..
one the nicest baker collection i've seen is from a friend 'Art Arzaga' in facebook, his custom collection of bakers are really nice..check it out

I'm sure alot of people here would gladly pay entrance should you decide to charge. You can discuss this with everyone, create a thread. You don't even have to show up.

the bishop is not Floyd Mayweather 55. :D he's a totally different forumite all together, a notorious troll banned some 25-30 times based on my estimates. (can't keep track anymore with all of roy pigdester's numerous incarnations and the other "invaders" of AGT, assuming they are different people.)

Interesting.
Sa totoo lang, gusto ko rin ma compare ang tunog ng gamit ni FM55 laban sa "generic" na karamihan sa atin, yun ang gamit. Parang audiophilia lang din kasi kung maituturing. Everything is purely subjective and syempre pa, andyan din yung psychological factor na kung saan e gusto mo i justify yung purchase mo. Lalo na kung napakalaki ng halaga na binitawan. Sino ba ang gusto ng "generic" tone coming from a 6/7-digit gear di ba?
Ang siste nga lang pa minsan minsan, sumosobra na sa justification :|

Pero, its not about firemodel55 anymore its about keeping the peace and organization here in Guitar Central. In the other thread (local builders etc) 5 out 7 pages were heavily laden with OT comments bashing this person. On several other threads ganyan din.
Paki ko ba kay bayani fernando este FM55? Ang hirap na nga ng connection dito sa PM and you'd have to sift through several pages of garbage all brought about by this person's foul smell este insecurities. This thread alone contributed to multiple occurrences of "Connection Problem" and "Temporarily Unavailable"
Given, I contributed heavily to this whole shiboom shibang, but somebody has to make a stand and point out this clown's attitude that tends to derail potentially informative threads. Look at how many chose to ignore and how many reacted, konti lang nag react. Kung akala nyo madami na reactions sa thread na ito, paano yung mga nagbasa lang at inignore? Ganun din sa ibang thread, konti pa lang ang nagrereact masmarami ang posibleng nag-ignore kasi hindi sila nagparticipate. We have been ignoring this person for so long. There's potentially more readers/lurkers than there are people who post.
Its one thing to ignore the gooey brown stuff, its another to clean it up after everybody has stepped on it and spread it all over the floor.

This guy IS desperate for attention. And a unique troll at that. I think, he will forever just talk loud and say nothing. For all I care about his equipment, he can't play so that's that. Funny about Mr. Gobot's suggestion to give Alex an open-to-the-forumites stern warning. Agree sana ako riyan pero knowing his self-serving, conceited, megalomaniac persona, he won't heed very very soon.
Hindi naman natin puwedend i-ban dahil I don't think he has done a move that is so foul like what Roy recently did - posting pictures of human penis and a video of a dog relieving itself sexually! But then again, for his almost 30th account, he will not stop making another soon.

Like I said before, apparently fm55 only does challenges on his own and only his own terms. Sounds like a take it or leave it proposition, and if the other party doesn't agree, then he's the one who backed down. Now if TS or other folk here can't sleep well at night just cuz fm55 doesn't want to do it on any other terms other than fm55's, well hindi na si fm55 ang may problem, si TS at ang mga anti-fm55!
Kung gusto ni TS or ninyo, issue him a challenge also on your own terms. Kung ayaw nya, eh di quits lang kayo. Then hopefully everybody moves on and learns their lesson.
Kung medyo flexible kayo at gusto nyo talaga matuloy, eh di negotiate the terms and logistics with him. If you ask him nicely, malay nyo baka pati yung date palitan (from Jan 2012 to Dec 31, 2011! LOL)

But then.. what makes a musician? Does he have to make a living from music? Does he have to be like Eric Johnson to be one? Or does he just have to make music (regardless of where he plays it)? While fm55 can be guilty of being mayabang with gear, aren't we also guilty of being mayabang about our playing skills? We say na malakas siya manlait because of his gear. Hindi ba malakas din tayo manlait because of our playing (as evidenced by the numerous posts about his playing skill and how we can play better than him)? For me, being mayabang about playing skills (& putting other people down because of it) is just as bad as being mayabang about gear.
I'm not condoning his actions , but I've also noticed that those on "the other side" (ie. Not fm55) aren't without fault. I think that some of the comments on this thread (& on other threads about him) are really out of line rin. In some ways, I'm not surprised na hostile siya sa mga gc members kasi sobrang hostile rin naman ng gc members sa kanya. Sometimes, when he posts, kahit valid naman sinasabi niya ('di naman lahat ng post niya naglalait ng iba), he gets flamed agad. Ang paglalait is never okay, even if one justifies it by saying na siya naman yung nagsimula. In other words, some people stoop down to his level din.
I really think that fm55 will not post on this thread. Ano makukuha niya? Lalaitin naman lang siya (most likely). So wala ring mangyayari.

I get what you mean about the differences in playing live :-) iba nga naman talaga ang goals and/or ways of getting tone in a live band set-up compared to playing alone at home. (For example, in my experience - hirap ang most fuzzes to cut through a mix and reverb can actually drown out an otherwise decent tone in a full band set-up). I guess we could say na what he says can't apply to most (assuming most people here do gig) of our circumstances/situations? :-)
And.. I wasn't calling out anyone in particular naman. It was more of a commentary on how gc reacts to fm55 most of the time.

At least we have a fellow PM member who can give his opinions (however biased they may be) about them. :-D Some forum member (I'm pretty sure there are other PM members who can afford gear like that) might ask him about them before purchasing them or something similar.

If this truly is a challenge to find out who's gear sounds better and not a challenge of skill then I suggest you do it sytematically and objectively. Any guitar slinging weasel with even the slightest amount of skill can sound better on cheap gear than Alex with his pile of expensive stuff. Tone is subjective and to make this challenge valid I suggest you guys request at least three guys of different styles to try out both camps gears then ask them for thier opinions. The audience can decide for themselves which really does sound better. Just like american idol haha!

I get what you mean about the differences in playing live :-) iba nga naman talaga ang goals and/or ways of getting tone in a live band set-up compared to playing alone at home. (For example, in my experience - hirap ang most fuzzes to cut through a mix and reverb can actually drown out an otherwise decent tone in a full band set-up). I guess we could say na what he says can't apply to most (assuming most people here do gig) of our circumstances/situations? :-)
And.. I wasn't calling out anyone in particular naman. It was more of a commentary on how gc reacts to fm55 most of the time.

I always see Alex as a spoiled kid with a new toy that does nothing but brag about it, not being sensible enough to see how other kids feel. Maybe he won't change, he will never grow up.

Then it is also stands to reason to stop seriously taking people who take Alex seriously.
As bad as it looks like today, it doesn't hold a candle to what happened a few years ago here, and even more so earlier than that in livebands, where someone really threatened Alex with bodily harm. Sabihan ba naman na aabangan siya sa kalye papunta sa shop ng isang luthier. While admittedly fun to talk about by those with no love for the man, it was totally uncalled for. So, I can see where Joric is coming from when he thought the man had mellowed a bit.
I never took him seriously here in PhilMusic, despite all the arguments I had with him, many of which I prolonged on purpose so I can collect more material (veteran members will know what I'm talking about). It was fun for a time. The only side effect that I couldn't accept was that my name had become intertwined with his in the forum. I didn't feel I hit a low point when I read what his defenders had to say about me, but when the hecklers and the fence sitters started to closely associate him with me. Like, pag bumanat na naman si oasgomez (his first nick), may gatungero na babanat ng nasan na si Al? I hated that. So, I decided to stop.
Joric took a different path a bit later (which led to the duel thing), but the same lesson was learned.
Maybe GC should have a primer on fm55 so that the relatively newer members don't bite his bait.
It's easier to just ban him again. It's ridiculous to make such an accommodation for a troll even by current standards here, unless siya yung may ari ng forum.

We are all suckers here. In my 5 years here in PM, I have read most of FM55's arguments and the logic he uses. Both are only nice to read because he writes in proper grammar and spelling.
But this will never happen. I have in fact challenged him twice already. I even volunteered to put up the cost. I agreed with 99% of the conditions he wanted. What's the 1%? No recording daw.

I'm just enjoying the squirming. And, like we mentioned earlier on, fm55 is enjoying this immensely, because someone lost to him without him plucking a string. Hence, my suggesting a "primer" on fm55.

My opinion - di matutuloy to. I have some basis for my opinion:
1. Alex have been dared before and always wants everything to his convenience and to the opponents' disadvantage. If even one is not met, he backs out.
2. Mr. Gobotz have not been very clear on his identity - he has been an alias for so long and therefore I doubt if he really is sincere on the dare.
That's how I opine at least. Let's see if anyone will help up the ante para talagang matuloy - pero simple lang ha. Wag niyong isipin mababaw ako - katuwaan lang. just clearing stuff: was never banned or reprimanded for anything as some might imply, just shut that other account down as part of my peacemaking gesture back then with FM55.
