If I knew how to, I'd still say the same. It's not a measure of your level as a guitar player so don't worry about it. It doesn't mean you're excused from practicing of course or improving your skills in tryin to achieve speed. Just making sure that shredding is not seen as a gauge

This is untrue. My fingers are stubby and when I was working on pure velocity, I hit 16th notes at 220bpm, which is rather fast. Don't get me wrong, I say this not to brag but simply to prove that the shape of your fingers has nothing to do with their performance.

Dati nung high school/college days ko sa pinas, may instructional video ako ni malmsteen, petrucci at ung warm up video ni frank gambale (sa fade to black ko nabili, di pa sikat ang internet nun eh). More or less nakaya kong sabayan lahat yun at memorize ko lahat, parang academic approach kasi ang ginawa ko eh. Tapos nung nag-try akong maki-jam na ko sa mga magaling na musicians pucha wala akong matugtog kundi ung mga ideas dun sa book. I didn't feel like I was making music when I did that.

This is what I realized since then:

I agree! I can't shred too. I tried but failed. I can play fast licks but for continuous shredding, di kaya. I've noticed that the licks that I play more often are the licks that I can play at a faster pace. Finger memory ika nga.

Some people can't either, including me,Bro. Being left-handed, it was difficult for me to sync up my left & right hand. Feeling ko my right hand is not at par w/ my left in terms of speed.

Pero sabi nga sa nabasa ko dito, ensayo lang yan. Break it down into fragments muna then when you get the hang of it, explore the longer, meaner & more intricate passages

Shredding encompasses a wide array of technique like alternate picking, sweep/econo picking, tapping,legato & string skipping.Any technique executed at warp speed is shredding, I think( comping at 300 BPM, anyone?)

With just the right practice routine, Shredding will help you develop articulation & dexterity.It's a great addition to your arsenal. It's like having a gatling gun at your disposal.

It's a lot easier to manifest your thoughts when you're well articulated w/ the instrument. It'll be easier for you to execute a Lydian Flat 7 lick(given you know the theory, that is) w/ the blink of an eye.

Let's try keep an open mind pag dating sa shredding, lalo na if you're big on improv, more articulation = less dapa.

Think of it as a tool, " Mas maganda na yung meron ka at di mo nagamit kesa kelanganin mo pero wala ka magamit "

Yep... play it slow then slowly move it up to speed.   Pero that's not all, isang aspect palang yan.  You have to worry about timing, dynamics, "feel" and etc...  Mga master na magtuturo nyan haha.  Sarap nung mga shredder na sobrang "liquid" ang flow ng licks, napapatingin ako sa gitara at ginaganahan magpraktis... hehe pero matinding consistent training talaga if you want to be worthy of the term "shredder".  Dami kasi ala sa lugar mag"shred" kaya minsan panget sa pandinig ang term na shredd... pero may mga magagaling din naman and kahit siguro mga die hard slow blues fans eh mapapabilib ng isang tulad ni Vai or EJ.

Woah, nagulat ako inabut ng 3 pages agad. It's not that I want to shred to melt faces or something mga sirs. Well it's like (pardon my terms) the concept of condoms (narinig ko lang to sa alien vs predator pramis hindi sakin to galing), "I'd rather have one and not need it than need it and not have it". Ewan, I know some of you guys know how to sweep pick but not really use it in songs or stuff. It's kind of a nice technique to learn. PERO HINDI KO MAGAWA. 

I kinda get what you mean by " So what mga sirs".
