pmack, napanood mo na yung almost 10 minute drum solo sa isang tool concert? it said tomas haake sessioned for tool but it really looked like danny carey. id know cause tomas is a bit fat. and oh yeah, have u heard bout danny's one of a kind sonor kit? his kit was made of one kind of wood that became extinct after getting the trees for his kit... bad danny! oh well, good danny for his work in 10,000 days :-D but honestly, i like haake more. peace pmack! :-D

that was just a joke na sinabi niya sa modern drummer interview niya. as always with the band TOOL, they like to joke around and play pranks especially on their fans during interviews. hindi pa instinct yung puno na yun.

di ko pa napapanood yung particular video na yan and hindi ko pa gaano nare-research si thomas haake. but as far as i know, never pang nag-gig ang tool na may kulang na isang member sa kanilang apat (carey, keenan, jones, chancellor).

i saw them live nung august lang and it was like a dream come true. he did do a mind blowing solo. and ang bilis sobra ng kamay niya, not so much sa mga videos sa youtube pero pag live kitang-kita talaga. maynard was weird as usual. and the stage was all white (walls and floor) tapos may mga projectors sa taas na nagpro-project ng images onto the stage mismo while they play. ayos... i will never forget that day until i die.

he did use the kit that you mentioned sa tour. pero sa studio he uses a Ludwig kit and the specially made kit that Paiste and master drum m aker Jeff Ocheltree made for him. made from melted scrap Paiste cymbals. medyo sakit nga raw sa ulo kung yun ang gagamitin niya sa tour dahil sobrang bigat. kaya ginawan siya ng Sonor ng custom one-off kit for touring.

Well, that's Tool.  The members of Tool are into metaphysics, scientology, occult and all those deep, weird stuff.  These influences are reflected through their brand of music.  When I first listened to Tool's music, I didn't get it.  But I did my little Tool research, and now I understand why they are like that.  Listening to their music is kinda hard to swallow at first; but once you get it, you'll dig it.

Danny Carey is indeed one of the current drumming greats.  In his recent Modern Drummer interview (cover story, July 2006 issue), he mentioned about making an instructional video someday.  Sana matuloy yon.  Ang dami kong napupulot na fresh ideas from him.  For me, he's one of the most creative and technically sound drummers right now.  And I love his sound.

there a lot of websites dedicated to the philosophy pf the band tool. their official site: http://www.toolband.com/index_frames.html  is one hotspot. http://toolshed.down.net/  http://toolshed.down.net/links/
search ka lang sa google to find out what the others are.

and also, for a little eye candy, search mo yung artist na si Alex Grey.
siya ang gumawa ng artwork sa last 2 studio albums ng tool.

Luckily, I got all three Modern Drummer issues where in Danny Carey was the cover artist and feature.  Those are the December 1997, June 2001, and July 2006 issues, in case you wanna know.

And like what bro pmack just posted, yes, those are great Tool references, and I also got to know Tool through those sites.

When I check out artists, I not only check their music.  I try to dig deeper and do some research regarding their works, their philosophies, their insights... those kinds of stuff.  It helps me understand these artists much better.

I'm really digging Tool's Lateralus and 10000 Days albums.  My favorite Danny Carey drumming performances are The Grudge, Schism, Jambi and Rosetta Stoned.

Regarding Tim Alexander...  Oh yeah, he's one of my favorites too!  I think he's the most underrated drummer right now.  This guy can easily rank up with Neil Peart, Simon Phillips and guys of that level or caliber.  I consider him as one of my major influences.  He's one of my top three major influences on double bass technique (the other two are Mike Portnoy and Simon Phillips, in case you wanna know).
