musguit,
That was the subject of previous threads; marami nang nag-reklamo dito sa forums. And as far as I know, those threads and problems were already pointed out to the man RJ himself via e-mail by a mutual friend.
Sometimes it can't be helped. People make their own first impressions of other people, based on how they look, what they wear and their kilos.
I'm not taking the side of salespeople with wrong attitudes, but I can see their side too... that is, having to deal with all kinds of people coming in all day; some are prospective customers while others are just "tire-kickers". Pagod sila, maliit ang sahod, and mahina ang bentahan. I would get tired and impatient and impertinent too at some point.
If I was holding their jobs, I would need to quickly evaluate which walk-in customer is just looking and let him look around by himelf, and then try to attend more to those who seem to be doing more than just looking, and want more information. Para ma-maximize ko naman yung sales efforts ko...
As a customer naman, when a salesperson greets me and asks whether I need help (and I'm not there to buy), I always answer "Thank you, I'm just looking". So that salesperson is then free to attend to other customers who want/need help.
So what really is lacking dito sa atin? Etiquette, sales training, proper attitude, etc.? Baka kulang ang salespeople dito sa turo. Wala naman silang examples to learn by and emulate. Sa mga malaking stores like Rustan's, ok ang salespeople. They are trained how to interact and sell. Maybe smaller shops can't afford to do the same or don't care enough about store image to make the effort.
Kahit sa Guitar Center, maraming reklamo yung mga Kano sa staff ng tindahan. I've also gotten the same lousy treatment at JB and at Lazer.
But I look at it this way... if I rant about it, I just shorten my life. I just try to win over the salesperson with a smile, and a nice greeting. Even if that doesn't work, buying items from their store more than once wins them over too. And I get good treatment thereafter. That may not be the right approach for everyone, but it works for me...
Oh, and I avoid situations of prejudice altogether by dressing neatly (yun sa mukha sa kanilang may pambili) - neat shirt, slacks and shoes/sandals.
Geez, I've been going on and on and dunno if I've addressed your issues...
