lemme start..

Slash was born in England, his father was white while his mom is black. After his parents divorced, her mom took him to USA where he attended Beverly Hills High School at the same time as fellow guitarist Lenny Kravitz!  :-D

Lenny Kravitz is half-white, half-jewish. His ex-wife is Lisa Bonet (of The Cosby's fame) and he owns a reputable studio in the Bahamas that is frequently booked by groups like The Rolling Stones and Sting.

Jimi Hendrix could play with either hand. His father, Al Hendrix was responsible for this because he wanted Jimi to play "normally" (right handed). Jimi would always practice leftee but quickly switched hands and strummed away when his father was around.

"In January 1948, Paul was injured in a near-fatal automobile accident in Oklahoma, which shattered his right arm and elbow. Doctors told Paul that there was no way for them to rebuild his elbow in a way that would let him regain movement, and that his arm would remain in whatever position they placed it in permanently. Paul then instructed the surgeons to set his arm at an angle that would allow him to cradle and pick the guitar."

Here's something about Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi

Quote
When Tony Iommi used to work in a factory of some kind, his job was to pass hunks of metal to someone who used a machine to punch holes in the metal or cut it up or something like that... One day when the other guy didn't turn up, Tony tried to use the machine and cut the ends off his fingers - he took the bits to hospital where they said they couldn't do anything for him. The possibility that he would not ever play guitar again was very real. Tony may have tried switching to playing right handed, but it wasn't working out. Then a friend of his gave him a Django Rheinhardt album. This was a gypsy guitarist who only had two fingers. This inspired Tony to go home and repair his fingers with molten plastic from an old washing-up liquid bottle, in true Blue Peter spirit. He had to do so because playing without the ends of his fingers was too painful.

At the age of 16, Jimi was thrown out of school -apparently for holding the hand of a white girl in class - and he played rock'n'roll in teenage bands before voluntarily joining the army at 17.

After 14 months as a paratrooper, learning a lot about falling and flying, he suffered an injury and was discharged. He decided to enter the music field.

After 14 months as a paratrooper, learning a lot about falling and flying, he suffered an injury and was discharged. He decided to enter the music field.

I'd like to clear this out.

Jimi's first guitar was a white Zupro Ozark, (right handed strung leftee). The first song Jimi Played from start to finish was "Tall Cool One" by the Fabulous Wailers. Jimi's First gig was in the basement of the Temple De Hirsch Sinai, a Seattle synagogue. After the first set, he got thrown out of the band for his "wild playing" His first significant band would be the Velvetones.

Years later when Jimi became famous and began mythologizing his past to gullible reporters he told a fantastic tale of how he had been "kicked out" of Garfield High by racist teachers after he'd been discovered holding hands with a white girlfriend in a study hall.

Truth of the matter is: On his junior year, it was obvious that he was not going to graduate. Despite warnings from school officials that he would be expelled if he skipped class again, Jimi failed to show up. At the end of October 1960, he was officially taken off the ranks of Garfield students. His school files showed his reason for leaving was a "work refferal", but he had no other job other than as gutar player in the band The Rocking Kings.

On May 2, 1961, Jimi was arrested for riding a stolen car, spent a day in jail for that first offense and four days later was arrested again for riding another stolen car. The Seattle PD was criticized that time for overactive prosecution of black males. Jimi faced up to five years in prison for his criminal charges. With his court date looming,  he considered joining the armed forces since prosecutors often accept a stint in the service as a ple bargain. Jimi attempted to join the Air Force, but was not accepted because he did not have the "physical capacity to endure the g-forces of an aircraft". The more likely reason was that he was a black man. His next choice was the army, and was enlisted in the 101st Airborne Division.

On May 16, 1961 he was charged with a 2 year sentence that would be suspended on the condition that Jimi join the army. He was scheduled to train on May 29, to Fort Ord, California. After months of training, he wanted to go out of the army. He couln't quit the army immediately because a prison term would await him if he went AWOL.

On April 2, 1962 he reported to the base hospital that he had a serious, intimate problem and needed to speak to the base psychiatrist. Jimi told an outrageous tale of how he had developed homosexual tendencies and began fantasizing about his bunkmates. In a move that was in all likelihood original, he was caught masturbating in the barracks. He claimed that he was in love with his squadmates. These fabricated admissions represented a desperate gambit; if they failed to get him discharged, Jimi faced being ostracized by his peers. No soldier wanted to be known as a quitter or gay in the homophobic army. On May 14 1962, Capt. John Halbert discharged Jimi off the army because of his "Homosexual Tendencies". Jimi always told a story on how on his 26th leap out of an airlplane, he broke an ankle and hurt his back. The army records do not show any records of any injury. After being dismissed in the army, he continued his pursuit of music.

So, those are the facts of how Jimi got dropped out of highschool. He did not voluntarily join the army, instead he chose to join the army to escape a prison sentence. He was also discharged off the army not because of an injury, instead he made a false claim of having homosexual tendencies, so that he would be discharged and not fight in the real war.

Di ba nahulog mula sa apartment nila?

honga! nahulog sa building.. heres the story behind the famous song courtesy of wikipedia! hehehe!

"Tears in Heaven" is a heartfelt ballad written and performed by Eric Clapton about the pain he felt following the 1991 death of his four-year-old son, Conor, who fell from a 53rd-story window in his mother's New York City condominium. By all accounts, the death was simply a tragic accident, and Clapton was distraught for months afterwards.

Co-written by Clapton and Will Jennings, the song was initially featured on the soundtrack to the film Rush, and it won three Grammy awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Male Pop Vocal Performance in 1993. It was also included on Clapton's Grammy award-winning album, Unplugged. It is #353 on Rolling Stone's Top 500 Songs.

"Eric and I were engaged to write a song for a movie called Rush. We wrote a song called 'Help Me Up' for the end of the movie... then Eric saw another place in the movie for a song and he said to me, 'I want to write a song about my boy.' Eric had the first verse of the song written, which, to me, is all the song, but he wanted me to write the rest of the verse lines and the release ('Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees...'), even though I told him that it was so personal he should write everything himself. He told me that he had admired the work I did with Steve Winwood and finally there was nothing else but to do as he requested, despite the sensitivity of the subject. This is a song so personal and so sad that it is unique in my experience of writing songs." – Will Jennings

Clapton stopped playing it in 2004, as well as the song "My Father's Eyes."

"I didn't feel the loss anymore, which is so much a part of performing those songs. I really have to connect with the feelings that were there when I wrote them. They're kind of gone and I really don't want them to come back, particularly. My life is different now. They probably just need a rest and maybe I'll introduce them for a much more detached point of view."

stevie ray vaughan doesn't know how to ride a horse, even though he's a texan and wears a cowboy hat.

his brother jimmie vaughan was in a band called the chessmen w/c included doyle bramhall, acclaimed songwriter partner to SRV and father to doyle bramhall II, solo artist and session guitarists to roger waters and clapton..

while he was in the chessmen he opened for the jimi hendrix experience. while he was a great fan of the experience, the chessmen opted not to play their hendrix covers in respect to the headlining act. they instead played their cream cover songs.

very impressed by jimmie vaughan's tone and control of feedback...hendrix traded his wah pedal for vaughan's vox wah pedal, plus $40. jimi also gave jimmie the jackethe was wearing that particular show in texas...which jimmie later handed down to stevie.

later on, jimmie vaughan found himself in a band called the texas storm where in the famed singer janis joplin discovered him and took her under her wing to teach vaughan the lessons of excess andthe rockstar lifestyle.

this led to an incident where texas storm first showcase in the whisky ago-go resulted in a failed attempt to get signed to a record label.......afterwards vaughan quit rock and roll, and decided to play blues exclusively.

Wes Borland of Limp Bizkit is actually a jazz guitar player.

Keith Richard has quit drugs.

The measurement from 12th fret to the nut should be equal to the length from the 12th fret to the saddle of the G-string.

Gibson sued Gotoh for making Kluson-copy machineheads but later on subcon'ed them.

TEDDY DE VILLA DIAZ (The Dawn)

Teddy's father was the legendary Filipino actor Vic Diaz of Sampaguita Pictures fame; his grandfather was the late Pompeyo Diaz, a well known judge. He was a godchild of the "King of Philippine Movies", the late Fernando Poe, Jr.

Teddy Diaz was born on April Fools' Day, and was often teased because of this. He was the first grandchild on both sides of his family. Diaz had two brothers, Carl and Loren. Among the family members, Teddy's strongest bond was with his paternal grandfather, the late Justice Pompeyo Diaz. He inherited his grandfather's discipline and straightforwardness that would later show in his music.

sorta a correction: since most jewish folk are white, the other half of lenny's genes comes from his black mom. an actress, Rosie Roker (best known for her role as Helen Willis on the hit 70's sitcom, The Jeffersons.

Dave Mustaine and Kirk Hammett FEUDE

Mustaine's replacement within Metallica by Kirk Hammett resulted in bad blood between the two. Even though he has stated he "doesn't care Kirk took my job", he also noted "at least I got to bang his girlfriend before he took my job — how do I taste, Kirk?". He has also claimed that many if not all of the solos on "Kill 'Em All" were written by him and emulated note for note by Hammett, and in "The Art of Kirk Hammett" Kirk states that he was told to use Mustaine's existing solos as a guideline. In the Megadeth edition of Behind The Music, Mustaine stated that "now he sees how [Hammett] tries really hard" and "thinks he makes really good use of what talent he has" after stating earlier in that interview "I hear how much time James and Lars allowed him to solo, and said to myself 'God, he's horrible...' ". This feud has dropped off considerably in recent years, and Mustaine tends to direct his attention more on Hetfield and Ulrich.

Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck all played in the Yard Birds... When Eric Clapton left the band they offered the job to Jimmy Page who at the time was a first call session musician. He declined the offer but recomended his friend Jeff Beck who was playing with the Tridents. Jeff Beck took the Job as lead guitarist. When the yard bird bassist left Jimmy Page was so bored with his studio stint that he jumped at the offer to play bass for the Yard Birds. Then another line up change, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck Both on Lead guitars. This line up didnt last long, most of the members left the band including Beck. Jimmy Page found replacements for the yardbirds which Ultimately became the monster that is LED ZEPPELIN...

IBANEZ GUITAR HISTORY

A well known guitar manufacturer based in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. The company was started by Hoshino Gakki in 1978.

The Hoshino Gakki company began in 1900 as a musical instrument sales division of the Hoshino Shoten bookstore company. In 1935 they began manufacturing their own stringed instruments. The company had little presence in the Western world until the mid-1960s.

They started on importing Spanish guitars from the famous Spanish luthier Salvador Ibáñez (1854 - 1920), but when the Spanish workshop was destroyed during the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939) and the original guitars became unavailable (and very much sought after because of their excellent quality), they bought the rights of the trademark Ibanez and started making Spanish and acoustic guitars on their own, first as "Ibanez Salvador", and later as "Ibanez".

Harry's Rosenbloom, of Medley Music, based in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, was manufacturing handmade guitars under the name "Elger." By 1965 Rosenbloom had decided to stop manufacturing guitars and chose to become the exclusive North American distributor for Ibanez guitars. At the time, the phrase "made in Japan" was considered to have negative connotations of low quality, so Hoshino Gakki and Rosenbloom wanted to distribute the instruments under a "non-Japanese" name, so it was decided to market all the instruments (and not only the acoustics) under the Ibanez brand name. In 1981 Hoshino purchased Elger Guitars, renaming the company "Hoshino U.S.A." and retaining the company headquarters in Bensalem, Pennsylvania as a distribution and quality-control center.

In the early 1970s Ibanez began making guitars that were almost exact copies of popular models by Gibson, Fender and Rickenbacker. Using somewhat cheaper materials and greater automation in manufacturing, they were able to sell these guitars for a significantly lower price than the originals. The low price combined with the relatively high quality of the guitars made these models very popular. Many guitar aficionados feel that the early- and mid-70s mark a low point in the quality of guitars from the major manufacturers, which helped contribute to the popularity of the Ibanez copies. These guitars have become known as "lawsuit" guitars and have become highly collectible.

The actual lawsuit referred to was brought by the Norlin Corporation, the parent company of Gibson guitars, in 1977, and was based on an Ibanez headstock design that had been discontinued by 1976. Ibanez settled out of court, and by 1978 had begun making guitars from their own designs.

Abandoning the strategy of copying "classic" electric guitar designs, the newer models began incorporating more modern elements into their design, such as radical body shapes, slimmer necks and flatter fingerboards (which allowed for faster playing), higher-output electronics and colourful finishes. This led to an increasing popularity with heavy metal musicians. The company also began an extensive program of consulting with well-known guitar players, such as Kevin 'Noodles' Wasserman, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Munky, Andy Timmons, George Benson, John Petrucci, Herman Li and Sam Totman, creating signature models made to the players' specifications.

The company manufactures also electro-accoustic and accoustic guitars, both nylon and steel-stringed, under Ibanez trademark. The logo used on the headstocks of the accoustic guitars is the original Spanish Ibanez logo.

In 1991, Kotzen made his big break when he joined the rock band Poison at age 21, co-writing and performing on the album Native Tongue. This album produced two top twenty singles which Richie wrote, Stand and Until You Suffer Some(Fire & Ice). Kotzen was subsequently fired from the band when it was discovered that he had been romantically involved with Deanna Eve, the ex-fiance of Poison drummer Rikki Rockett. Kotzen and Eve later married and divorced. In 1999 Kotzen replaced Paul Gilbert as guitarist in the mainstream rock band Mr. Big. Kotzen maintained the band's enormous success, performing on the Mr. Big record Get Over It, which sold more than 175,000 copies in its first two weeks in Japan, eventually reaching platinum status. Kotzen also contributed guitars to Mr. Big's subsequent release Actual Size. The record included the Kotzen song Shine, which debuted at number one on Japanese radio charts. Following the disbanding of Mr. Big, Kotzen released the solo album Change, in 2003. The title track, and the song Get A Life were featured in TV commercials throughout Japan.

In previous interviews he has described himself as "an equal opportunity lech" and said he doesn't define himself as gay, straight, or bisexual, but that he was attracted to and had relationships with both men and women.

i think at age 14 dimebag won his first ever dean ml guitar...at first dimebag was hesistant to play guitar...his father ask him if what would he pick as a gift for his birthday: a bike or a guitar..he chose bike...after hearing sabbath records.he turn to his dad, and giving up the bike and taking the guitar instead...at age of 18darrell was already a respected guitarist on texas club scene.he was banned from every guitar competetion in the state of texas, because he already won them all

-dimebag was asked to play for megadeth but eventually refuses it because  he want his brother, vinnie paul,to be with him too..only returning the favor when vinnie paul would quit his former band if darrell wouldnt be in the band...

- darrell got his signature blade necklace as gift from his girlfriend...it gets the idea from the judas priest album british steel..

-dimes dean from hell guitar's custom blue finish with white lighning bolts was applied when guitarist buddy blaze owned the guitar from a short period of time..

The measurement from 12th fret to the nut should be equal to the length from the 12th fret to the saddle of the G-string.

tama! kaya kapag ang 12th fret ay katunog ng 12th fret harmonics, the string has proper intonation.

top 10 shredders of all time: (based on guitar one)

1) VOTED #1 OF ALL TIME
MICHAEL ANGELO BATIO

Michael invented the Dean Double-Guitar and was the first person in the world to successfully play it. AWESOME!! Michael started playing piano and composing at age 5 and started playing guitar at age 10. Michael has performed over 1100 shows in 31 different countries since 1993. He has tours the world performing guitar workshops, touring with various bands and as a solo artist.

#2
CHRIS IMPELLITTERI

Chris Impellitteri is one of the most unique, intense, and dynamic guitarists in heavy rock today. His influences range from Al Dimeola to Uli John Roth to Edward Van Halen. Chris has been releasing some of the best progressive, neo-classical guitar work around since the mid-'80's, inspiring countless musicians.

# 3
YNGWIE J. MALMSTEEN

When he was young, Yngwie didn't want much to do with music. Music was soft, a thing for wimps, and Yngwie was into all things destructive. An unruly child, Yngwie took delight in anything that went against the grain. But, one night while watching television, 7-year-old Yngwie saw a television special about guitar maestro Jimi Hendrix, and it was all over. Jimi's death had spurred the birth of a new guitar hero: Yngwie J. Malmsteen.

# 4
PAUL GILBERT

Guitarist Paul Gilbert has sold over three million records in the United States stemming from his brilliant work with Racer X, Mr. Big and as a solo artist. Long known as one of the top shredders in the business, Gilbert sometimes returns to his blues rock roots as on his Raw Blues Power album

# 5
SHAWN LANE

Lane began his musical interests very young, studying piano and cello from

ex marilyn manson guitarist john5

J5 Telecaster

This unusual Telecaster guitar was co-designed by talented shred-meister John 5 himself. Its aggressive Fender Enforcer™ humbucking pickup at the bridge position and Custom Shop Twisted Tele™ pickup at the neck will melt even the heaviest metals. Other features include a three-way pickup selector switch, chrome hardware and a radically distinctive headstock design.

J5 Triple Tele Deluxe

A new-millennial update of a timeless classic. Inspired by one of our favorite uber-shredders, John 5, the new J5 Triple Tele® Deluxe puts a fiendishly ferocious spin on the always-popular ’70s-era Tele Deluxe design.
A study in black and chrome, the J5 put three screaming hot high-output Enforcer™ humbucking pickups in a sleek black double-bound body adorned with a vintage tremolo bridge and a flash chrome pickguard guaranteed to blind ’em all the way in the back row. Yikes …

J5 (Special Edition) signature Acoustic

The instantly recognizable John 5 is of course an in-demand metallurgist/shredder of the first order. Actually, though, he’s a truly fine guitarist in just about any genre—especially country chicken pickin’—and he’s just as blazing on acoustic as he is on electric.
Hence, our J5 Signature Acoustic was designed in conjunction with J5 himself to provide fantastic tone, light-speed playability and terrific stage appearance. Features include a gloss Black body with chrome pickguard, solid spruce top, mahogany neck, back and sides, chrome die-cast tuners, a Florentine (sharp) cutaway, John 5 Telecaster® headstock and Fishman® Classic IV T electronics with built-in tuner.

-Paul has a Pink BCR Mockingbird :-D

Bass guitar pioneer Jaco Pastorius was killed by a bouncer after being caught trying to sneak into a Carlos Santana concert.

Eric Johnson's breakthrough virtuoso masterpiece "Cliffs of Dover" was actually recorded on a Gibson ES-335, not a Fender Stratocaster. But he almost always plays it live on a Strat.

mawalang galang na po... yes, jaco was killed by a bouncer but not because he tried to sneak into a santana concert.. its because he's drunk and making trouble inside a bar.. if m not mistaken.  :-D

Steve Vai is a self-confessed "poser"... don't believe me? these are his exact words during a tour of his gears after showing his honeywell electric fan which he said he couldn't play without... in fact he said that he can play without his pedals and effects but not without his honeywell fan...

this is what he said:
"...it's all about looking cool when you're on stage right? c'mon now, you know that im a poser from wayback, so let's not kid anybody here...."

hahaha... still dont believe me? if you have the guitar world issue which featured Steve Vai and Joe Satriani on the cover, the cd-rom that comes along with that issue has a special on Steve Vai showing all his gear and setup when touring and playing on stage... its that magazine where Joe and Steve celebrate their 20 years of shredding the fretboard...

Epiphone Supernova
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Epiphone Supernova was a Korean-made electric guitar built for Noel Gallagher of the English band Oasis. Built to Gallagher's specification, the guitar features many elements similar to that of other Epiphone semi-acoustic guitars.

Design and sound
Featuring a double cutway design, the Supernova is reminiscent of other Epiphones such as the Epiphone Sheraton or Epiphone Dot guitars. The Supernova featured chrome hardware, including a stop bar tailpiece, humbucking pickups and tuners.

Featuring two Alnico 57 pickups, the guitar is tonally similar to the Sheraton and Gibson ES-335 guitars.

yung wood galing sa fireplace mantle.

malaki yung neck kasi malaki yung kamay ni brian may.

yung pickups eh custom Burns pickups.

yung tremolo galing sa spring sa bicycle.

may 6 switches for on/off and phase on/phase off of each pickup.

also read somewhere na only after 20 or 30 years of continuous live and studio work, recently lang (as in late 90s ata or early 2000s) rinestore/ginalaw yung red special. may mga worm holes pa nga daw sa kahoy.

2 prominent musicians share similar names: dave evans (the edge of u2) and dave evans (formerly of acdc)

the edge is probably the guitarist who uses the most number of guitars in a show. now thats being very meticulous...or even oc in tone!

john mayer, most of the times, do not use the same guitar from one song to another (any given thursday). he did use the same type of guitar but not the ACTUAL guitar (his sunburst artist model). he swtiches guitars so the PAs can fine tune the guitar while John is busy detuning the other guitar in his hands as he bends them strings beyond legal bounds  :-P

from wikipedia...  :?

Armstrong has stated that he is bisexual. In an interview with LGBT magazine The Advocate, he was quoted as saying, "I think I've always been bisexual. I mean, it's something that I've always been interested in. I think everybody kind of fantasizes about the same sex. I think people are born bisexual, and it's just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of 'Oh, I can't.' They say it's taboo. It's ingrained in our heads that it's bad, when it's not bad at all. It's a very beautiful thing."

He inherited his grandfather's discipline and straightforwardness that would later show in his music.

here's my tribute to Teddy..

Jeff loomis and Marty friedman :-D

Jeff Loomis was auditioned for Megadeth (during the So Far, So Good...So What! era) at the age of 16, when their lead guitarist Jeff Young left the band. After they played a few songs together, Dave Mustaine, the band's frontman and other lead guitarist, thanked Loomis and told him that one day he would become a great guitar player, but because of his age and inexperience he was not right for the position. Jeff Loomis saw Cacophony on tour, and told Marty Friedman, who became very interested, about the audition. Marty tried out for the position and joined the band in 1989. In 2005, Loomis would then share the stage with Megadeth, as the lead guitarist for Nevermore as part of Mustaine's Gigantour festival.

In the early '50s, Leo Fender (Fender guitars) popularized the "six in line" style headstock with all the gears on top since this design is very desirable for string bending, which has growing popularity back then. :-D

Katabi ni Stevie Ray Vaughan matulog si Number 1 pag wala si Lenny, wife nya...

Eric Clapton bought (if I am not mistaken with the model) 5 57' black strats.
He gave one to George Harrison, one to Pete Townshed and the last 3 for himself. He chose the best parts of the last 3 strats and assembled the guitar known to us as "Blackie"

Clapton wrote the song "wonderful tonight" for Patti, ex-wife of bestfriend George Harrison. He wrote the 1st part while waiting for Patti to dress up for the party they will be attending. Then later completed the song after they went home from the party.

Eric Clapp a.k.a Eric Clapton

Stephen Ray Vaughan a.k.a. Stevie Ray Vaughan

SRV loved Number 1 so much that when the neck of Number 1 was totally wrecked, he had his guitar tech disassemble the neck of the red strat he used in the 1983 Live in Austin gig be removed and replace the original neck of Number 1. The red strat was replaced with a left handed fender neck.

.... nakwento sakin!

Stevie Ray Vaughan use gauge 13 on Number 1, but as he became more famous and had a lot of gigs he switched to gauge 11's but with a 13's on the 1st string.

i dont know if everyone knows this..

kurt cobain had a custom guitar made for him by fender.. its a combination of jaguar and mustang. also called jagstang. shown here in fiesta red.

he had another jagstang in sonic blue with his name on the back of the headstock.

its known that when kurt received the guitar, it needed so much tweeking that he had to send it back to fender.

2 of my favorite guitarist, Roy Buchanan & Joe Pass were ex cons... Roy was arrested for public intoxication & allegedly committed suicide several hours after the arrest, using his own shirt... how tragic! Roy's tone is so incredible. He inspired a lot of guitar legends like Jeff Beck ( he even dedicated the tune "cause we've ended as lovers" to Roy.) the group Rolling Stones even asked Roy to be their guitarist (w/c he declined). and Joe Pass, what can I say about the "Virtuoso" ? I'll take him anytime rather than all of the Gambales, Yngwies, Vais, & Petrucci's combined... sadly, he was arrested for drugs & died of cancer...

Joe Satriani played for Deep Purple in the early 90's between Richie Blackmore's departure and before the band eventually took The Dixie Dregs' Steve Morse into the fold as a permanent member.

Check out Satch & Morse trading licks playing "Black Night" w/ DP Live in 2004. Joe used one of Steve's Musicman Strats...

billy gibbons anyone?

billy was jimi hendrix' favorite guitarist. he is known to play his guitar using a quarter, a peso as a pick resulting a distinctive sound.

the story behind the guitar of B.B. King, Lucille.

he named the guitar after he played a show in a juke joint that caught fire and he ran in and grabbed the guitar. he reflected on how foolish that was and he decided only a man in love would act that way so he named the guitar after a woman.

---

the #0001 strat of david gilmour is NOT the first strat ever produced but it was made in june 1954. it has a special paint job, gold finish, and gilmour suspects it was a cust shop job with the special numbering included. he said it is the kind of guitar the separates the players from the wannabies and will never be sold.

---

malmsteen has a duck strat. its a 72 yellow strat and has a donald duck sticker on the headstock. malmsteen has played it on all of his albums and he is pictured with it often.

---

the NO.1 strat was vaughn's main intrument that had to be rebuilt often. he was very hard on his intruments. ever seen him live? he also used such thick gauge strings that his fingers would get cut up and he'd put superglue on the tips to keep playing! it was buried with him after his tragic helicopter crash in 1990. he was only 35.

---

eddie van halen built his famous frankenstein guitar and used throughout the 70s and early 80s. he used bicycle tape to create those famous designs on the body, the white and black stripes on a red finish. it has a kramer neck and sometimes is confused with a kramer but the body is from a strat.

---

Jeff Beck once had Rod Stewart as the lead singer of his band. He was also lead guitarist of the Yardbirds replacing Eric Clapton. Two of his notable albums have included the George Martin produced 'Blow By Blow' and the brilliant self titled 'Guitar Shop' in 1989.

---

David Bowie and Peter Frampton went to school together. The 15 year-old Bowie and the 12 year old Frampton would jam together, Bowie with his saxophone. The two would reunite much later when Frampton played lead on Bowie's 'Never let Me Down' album and subsequent tour.

---

Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, two American blues men, is where the band Pink Floyd formed their name. Syd Barrett, the main contributor to the bands early live success and also the brilliant 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' album, increasingly became more and more mentally unstable. He would often stop playing in the middle of a gig, or go off on his own tangent. It got to a point where he was impossible to play with and was replaced by Gilmour.

---

Van Halen pioneered a technique that would become his trademark. The two-handed tap involves using fingers on the plucking hand (right hand for right handed guitar) to hammer-on, snap-off notes. These were often used on harmonic frets. You can hear an 'uncredited' Eddie Van Halen's solo work on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' recording.

---

Part of 'The Who' guitarist Pete Townshend's live act was to smash a guitar up on stage. He first did this when he broke a guitar on a low ceiling while playing live, and continued the demolition as if he initially broke the guitar on purpose.

Jeff Beck moved to bass when Jimmy Page joined the Yardbirds. Then eventually Keith Ralf (rhythm guitarist) took up the bass leaving Jeff and Jimmy to do the dual lead guitar thing. Didn't last long though. Jeff left, and so did the others. The Yardbirds had dates left to fulfill so he asked the other Yardbirds if he could continue the gigs using the Yardbirds name. They agreed. Jimmy then got drummer John Bonham, bassist/keyboardist John Paul Jones and singer Robert Plant. Bonzo suggested that their music was heavy like a lead zeppelin. The others liked the name but decided to remove the a in lead because it might be pronounced like lead as in lead guitarist. Eventually, they became what we know as Led Zeppelin.

Oh yeah, if you think ripping off is rampant today, Led Zeppelin were the kings of stealing music from other people and not crediting them. But I still like them though.

this is wrong, Pink Floyd got their name by combining two first names of their favorite blues artists: Pink Anderson and Floyd Council

During his young days, Jimmy Page focused his future in biology to be a germ researcher and discover a way to cure cancer...

John Bonham died because he drank forty measures of vodka which resulted in pulmonary edema (waterlogging of the lungs caused by inhalation of vomit) while asleep(sideways).

Robert Plant used to be a construction worker laying tarmac on roads in england.

John Paul Jones used to play in church..

In their first ever tour, Led Zeppelin band name was "The New Yardbirds" a former band of jimmy page..

"Led" in Led Zeppelin was supposed to be spelled as "Lead". it was then changed to "Led" because of those thick americans who pronounced the band "Leed Zeppelin".

It was Keith Moon and John Entwistle(The Who) who gave jimmy page the idea of the name Led/Lead Zeppelin.

Terry Reid was the first vocalist invited by Page to form led zeppelin, but he declined and Reid introduced Plant instead..

When Plant was auditioning for Led Zeppelin for the vocalist spot, Page first thought Plant is not the right singer for his band because Plant wasn't even a big name in england and he was singing for years before they met. Page then invited Plant into his house and observed him. they got together well and what do you know? hello Led Zeppelin. (Bonham was referred by plant while jones was recruited by page due to being a friend/co-worker during his sessionist days).

In the winter of 1949, King played at a dance hall in Twist, Arkansas. In order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit, a fairly common practice at the time. During a performance, two men began to fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the floor. The hall burst into flames, which triggered an evacuation. Once outside, King realized that he had left his guitar inside the burning building. He entered the blaze to retrieve his beloved $30 guitar, a Gibson acoustic. Two people died in the fire. The next day, King learned that the two men were fighting over a woman named Lucille. King named that first guitar Lucille, as well as every one he owned since that near-fatal experience, as a reminder never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or fight over women

hehehe astig noh?

Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Custom 24 Emerald Green
Once owned by Page Hamilton of the band Helmet who used the guitar for one tour then returned it.Daniel rang up PRS asking what guitars they had in stock and they said they had just been returned a guitar by Page and Daniel quickly said 'Yes!'. Used since mid-1995 and tuned in Drop-D ever since then. Used for Slave, Freak, Israel's Son, The Door...  :-D

Pwede ba to -- effects-related:

(Re: Origins of Distortion)

In the early days of guitar amplification, amplifiers were primitive and low-fidelity, and distortion was inherent in the signal chain.

Most amplifiers were all-purpose, designed for use with multiple instruments with different output levels, and guitar pickups were often clip-on types that had weak output levels and microphonic properties. The guitars were typically hollow-body instruments, which would resonate sympathetically with the amplified signal, causing unwanted feedback - until Les Paul came along and solid body electric guitars were born.

Overdrive/Distortion/Cabs:

An early user of valve overdrive was Chuck Berry, who at the start of his career played through small valve amplifiers, the only ones he could afford. Because of their low output, they were easy to overdrive, giving Chuck's guitar tone a warm overdriven sound, which can be heard on his recording of his first hit "Maybellene". On later recordings he was able to afford better and larger amps and consequently his tone became cleaner. The earliest uses of intentional distortion that have been recorded were achieved through "doctoring" amplifiers and speakers. Guitarists would use a razor blade, screwdriver or pencil to poke holes into their speaker cones to create a distorted sound.

kurt cobain had an  Ibanez Les Paul Custom copy, left-handed, set neck, cherry sunburst, Dimarzio X2N pickups, 2 coil tap mini switches (installed when purchased), flame top but not super flamey, black pickguard (may have been removed) and pickup rings. Black or gold speed knobs. This was a great lefty guitar but Kurt wouldn't play it live because he said it looked too much like Jimmy Page. Earnie may have sent this for the "In Utero" recording (41)(59).

from http://www.kurtsequipment.com/

cant imagine kurt with a les paul, much less an Ibanez lawsuit copy.

All of Kurt's techs were always recycling parts from smashed guitars, often piecing them together. Sometimes, only a pickguard or the pickups were changed (57). Kurt used lots of different straps, usually white or black Ernie Ball.

"MICAWBER" is the name of Keith Richards' favorite Telecaster with a humbucker neck PU and a brass plated bridge with only 1-5 strings attached in an open G tuning..He got the name from a character in the novel of Charles Dickens "David Copperfield"

Do you know that Foo Fighter's drummer Taylor Hawkins did all the drum parts for Coheed and Cambria's 4th album entitled "Good Apollo I'm Burning Star IV Part II: No World For Tomorrow"

This was after former drummer Josh Eppard left the band before recording the studio album and before they manage to grab hold of former-drummer of The Dilinger Escape Plan: Chris Pennie. It was mentioned that Chris could not join them as early as the recording of the said album because of a contract. So all that known, Taylor Hawkins agreed to play as the studio drummer for Coheed's album.

Claudio Sanchez, vocalist/guitarist of Coheed and Cambria is heavily influenced by Pink Floyd that he personally claimed that the song "The Final Cut" was because of his fondness of Pink Floyd. He tried his best in the solos section to capture David Gilmour's tone by using a Fender Strat(?) rather than his standard Gibson Explorer..

That's probably it for now...hehehehe

When Eric Clapton left the Yardbirds,
from wikipedia:
Clapton recommended Jimmy Page, a studio guitarist he knew (and with whom he would soon cut a series of stirring blues guitar duets, including "Tribute to Elmore" and "Draggin' My Tail"), as his replacement, but Page, uncertain at the time about giving up his lucrative studio work and worried about his health, recommended in turn his friend Jeff Beck. Beck's playing style and bent for experimentation pushed the Yardbirds toward a "psychedelic rock" sound. He played his first gig with the Yardbirds only two days after Clapton's departure.

Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page both at the same time played for the Yardbirds, no records was able to document their dual lead playing...

You must be referring to "Minstrel Gigolo"? As the album credits indicate.

Detroit's MC5 are forced to replace a live version the song, "Kick Out the Jams" from the album of the same name because it contains explicit lyrics (the song's introduction contained the phrase "Kick out the jams, motherf*ckers!").

Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ric Grech and Ginger Baker saw their debut album, "Blind Faith" banned by several retailers because the cover showed a naked 11 year old girl. Atco Records was forced to issue two different covers, although the 'clean' version doesn't sell nearly as well.

The Beatles' "Come Together"- The first line in this song -- "Here come old flat-top, he come groovin' up slowly," bears a strong resemblance, musically and lyrically, to Chuck Berry's 1958 hit "You Can't Catch Me" (whose couplet, written about a car chase, goes "Here come a flat-top, he was moving up with me"). This slight homage would prove to cause major discomfort in John's life, as Morris Levy, legendary record promoter and publisher, owned part of the rights to Berry's song. Levy sued Lennon, a suit which was finally settled when Lennon agreed to create a whole album of covers owned by Levy. It was released in 1975 as the Rock And Roll album. Paul has since claimed he was the first to notice the similarities between the two songs, and suggested slowing the tempo down to make it less noticeable.

Lennon felt attacked by McCartney, who later admitted that lines in the song "Too Many People" on the album Ram were intended as digs at Lennon, wrote "How Do You Sleep?" a song from John Lennon's 1971 album Imagine, as an answer to McCartney. It features a slide guitar part played by George Harrison. The song's lyrics arguably refer to the Paul is dead hoax ("Those freaks was right when they said you was dead")

Jimi Hendrix first UK gig took place in a pub in Newcastle and lasted about three minutes. He played so loud that he blew every fuse in the building and the show came to an end.

The English rock band Duran Duran had three members whose last name is Taylor, but none of them are related.

Steely Dan founders Donald Fagen and Walter Becker first got together in a band known as The Bad Rock Group and later as The Leather Canary. Future comedy star Chevy Chase was their drummer.

The song "Summertime Blues" was a US Top 40 hit in three different decades - in the fifties by Eddie Cochran (#8), the sixties by Blue Cheer (#14) and the seventies by The Who (#27)

Inspired by the Summer of Love, Fender issued optional pink paisley and blue floral finishes for the Telecasters. The finish was actually a piece of wallpaper which was adhered to the guitar's top and back and covered with clear varnish. This finish also appeared on a few Telecaster basses.

Jimi Hendrix used to play for Little Richard from whom he eventually got his taste of clothings/fashion sense.

IMO, American Idol = overrated. Non winners get better careers than winners. I quit the show after Fantasia (WTF?) won. The only winner with a decent career is Kelly Clarkson, probably Carrie but almost none of the others.

The Birth of Steel Guitar

Portuguese sailors and Mexican cowboys introduced the Spanish guitar to the hawaiian islands around 1830. in the mid-1860's, gut strings gave way to steel strings, which native musicians preferred for their "slack key" open tunings. In 1885, an 11-year old hawaiian guitarist named Joseph Kekuku ran a railroad spike along his steel strings and fell in love with the mysterious sound. He made a steel tone bar at his school's machine shop, raised his flat-top's strings, and pioneered lap-slide technique. by the 1920's, "Hawaiian" acoustic guitar was entrenched on the mainland, often played on hollowneck instruments. By the mid-30's, most tone-bar players had migrated to resonator guitars or electric lap steels..

From the "Guitar Player Magazine April 2005 issue, the 101 GREATEST MOMENTS in Guitar History"..

David Bowie is said to have two different eye colors not because of hetero-chromia but because he damaged one eye during a fight.

the story goes:

"When Bowie was age fifteen, his friend George Underwood, wearing a ring on his finger, punched him in the left eye during a fight over a girl. Bowie was forced to stay out of school for eight months so that doctors could conduct operations in attempts to repair his potentially-blinded eye. Underwood and Bowie remained good friends; Underwood went on to do artwork for Bowie's earlier albums. Doctors could not fully repair the damage, leaving his pupil permanently dilated. As a result of the injury, Bowie has faulty depth perception. Bowie has stated that although he can see with his injured eye, his colour vision was mostly lost and a brownish tone is constantly present. The colour of the irises is still the same blue, but since the pupil of the injured eye is wide open, the colour of that eye is commonly mistaken to be different."

Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, marks the 100th birthday of Leo Fender (1909-1991). Perhaps alone among the names of great 20th century instrument makers and innovators, his is well known even to a great many who don’t play guitar (as in fact he didn’t).

Contrary to popular belief, Steve Vai did not use his Ibanez 7-string exclusively and extensively on his monstrous solo album, Passion and Warfare, despite visually present on the album's front and back covers. He only used it a couple of times. It was on the Whitesnake album, Slip of the Tongue and its supporting tour where Vai used the 7-string exclusively.
