1. sydney australia gig ni Ely. since 2002, ngayon na lang siya tumugtog ng isang all-Eheads set for a gig. at isa pang interesante at kapansin-pansin sa gig niya na ito, gamit niya ang isang Fender strat na parang ginamit din niya noong Eheads era. ito ay iba sa madalas niyang ginagamit sa mga gigs niya with Pupil. (nasa youtube yung gig. see for yourselves.)
2. yung episode sa Jessica Soho reports about UP centennial. medyo weird kase sa mga commercial bago ipalabas yung episode, walang teaser about the Eraserheads being together again in UP (na naisip ko, kung gusto nilang humakot ng more viewers, they should have at least included sneak shots doon sa tatlo. PERO for some weird reason, WALA). pero noong pinanood ko na, nagulat ako kasi nandoon din pala sa episode sina Marcus, Raims, at Buddy. went down the memory lane sa Kalayaan dormitory. minsan sa may Kalayaan tayo'y... nagkatagpuan... 3. merong bagong version ang Huling El Bimbo with an orchestra. and yes, si Ely ang kumanta siyempre.
4. and then there's this anonymous user na nagco-comment sa ilang blogs ng mga Eheads listers, giving hints on a "one-day reunion." at natutuwa daw "siya" kase marami pa ring nag-aasam na magkaisa ang Eraserheads.

Posible tong concert na to.... Nakausap ko mismo si MARCUS nung gig namin sa Route 196 with The Pin-Up Girls and The Wuds. Nagkwekwentuhan kami sa labas ng kung anu-ano tapos biglang "kinapalan" ko na lang mukha ko.

According to the STAR source, all the original members (photo) are performing — Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro and Raimund Marasigan.
This piece of good news should make the Eraserheads fans very happy.
Said to be the ‘greatest Pinoy band,’ the Eraserheads will sing all their hit songs, including Alapaap, Toyang and Ang Huling El Bimbo.
So much water, so to speak, has flowed under the bridge since the band broke up years ago.
Ely, who survived a heart attack two years ago, has formed two bands, Mongol (which didn’t last long) and Pupil (still playing).
‘It took one big company to bring the former band members together,’ said the source who is keeping the company’s identity ‘confidential’ for the time being.

Yeah I heard about this from Day Cabuhat, manager of Pupil. Note that there have been no official press statements or presscon or announcement or whatever because everyone was sworn to secrecy. But since Ricky Lo, that blabbermouth just leaked it out - expect all the details to spread virally thanks to the magic of the innerwebs.

Malamang meron na namang mga taong manggugulo lang dun. Libre eh. Tingnan nyo na lang yung nakaraan na MYX mo almost 2 years ago. Sana naman walang mangyaring masama.
Hindi naman po sa ipinagkakait ko sa iba yung concert (wala din naman ako pera eh. hehe) pero pano kaya mali-limit yung taong pupunta sa venue eh sila ang Eraserheads?
Sana kung libre nga yung concert, sana talaga mahigpit yung security. Lam nyo naman, maraming mga loko-loko na pumupunta ng concert para manggulo at mambato ng kung anu-ano lang. Sana maging mapayapa yung concert at sama-sama natin lasapin ang sarap ng gabi. Hehe. :-D

I think they need to tighten up their performances so badly. As it seems, we have no proof that they are doing serious rehearsals. The last few E-heads performances I've seen were mediocre at best. Raimund would do 'uncalled for' improv fills, Marcus would trip out on effects too much (hey why do you need sweeping phaser and tons of ping pong delay for "Torpedo'), and Ely was not singing from the heart already. They weren't keen to live tone that much... It was only Buddy who seemed like a class act all along. It was very evident they weren't happy with each other in the late 90s and early 2000's. I really miss their enthusiasm in performing in the Circus/Cutterpillow days.
Anyway, if this pushes through, I would go with my wife because Huling El Bimbo has a special place in our hearts. Not really our theme song, but more like a milieu song for us.
ANG TANONG- One time big time lang ba ito? Wala nang follow-up CD? Studio work?

The band, composed of Ely Buendia, Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raimund Marasigan, were highly responsible for the resurgence of Pinoy rock music in the '90s. Armed with catchy hooks, street-smart lyrics, and uncanny pop sensibilities, the Eraserheads rose to critical and commercial prominence and was dubbed as the country's own version of The Beatles—a tag the quartet simultaneously scoffed and cherished during their phenomenal reign.
Strained relationship among the band members unfortunately led the group to disband following frontman Ely Buendia's departure in 2002. Ely's resignation was relayed through his bandmates only through a text message citing the words, "It's graduation time."
LONG AND WINDING ROAD. Years after the band called it quits, the Eraserheads legacy grew exponentially with various tributes and accolades being accorded to the group through various art and pop culture media. At the same time, fans clamor for the band members to reunite grew steadily particularly after Ely survived a heart attack early last year.
Still, and despite all the noise created by old and new fans, the reality of a reunion was still remote. Even Buendia's near brush with mortality seem to do nothing to soften the singer-songwriter's firm resolve.
Some clues, however, seem to suggest that a reunion may finally happen earlier than expected. Last year, July 26, a special event dubbed as Eraser X was held at Saguijo Café in Makati featuring Raimund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala complemented by fellow musician friends playing an all Eraserheads set list.
A few months earlier, Raimund and Buddy together with former guitarist Marcus Adoro graced the book launching of Tikman ang Langit: An Anthology on the Eraserheads at Powerbooks in Greenbelt, Makati City. Ely opted to skip both events citing prior commitments as the culprit for his absences. Many, of course, believed that the enigmatic frontman was simply making an excuse so as not to offend the fans who were anxiously hoping for a reunion through any means possible.
Interestingly, Marcus, backed up by a band he wittingly named Markus Highway came out with an album under Warner Music Philippines. In an interview with PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) months before the launching of his new record, Marcus shared his desire to play or at least tour with his former bandmates' new bands. He also said that his relationship with the three ex-members was okay and amicable.
But still, the big difference remains to be Ely Buendia. As evasive as he is when it comes to answering nagging questions about his glorious past as the main creative force of the "most influential" OPM band of all time, many observers took note that Buendia's current band, Pupil, was incorporating Eraserheads songs quite more frequently this year as compared to last year. There was even this rumor saying that Ely conducted a "secret gig" somewhere where he did a straight-out all Eraserheads number. The rumor was neither conformed nor denied by Ely's camp.
FORMING THE PUZZLE. For some time, cyberspace was inundated with news of an Eraserheads reunion. Recently, a blog site gradually showed sketchy little clues until it finally led to an inverted capital "E" image with the script "83008" written under the image. The figures, as it turned out, means August 30, 2008—the official date of the Eraserheads reunion concert after six years of not playing music together.
According to the reports, the four were swayed to once again play together after a "big company" tendered a huge offer. "Each member is said to be receiving a rather large sum—with estimates ranging from P2.5 million to P10 million apiece—in order to pull together for a 45 minute set," wrote music insider Jim Ayson at PhilMusic.com.
During the launching of Pedicab's second record at the Cubao Expo on July 11, words were flying that the company sponsoring the historic event is a "telecommunications" company. However, it was later revealed that a tobacco company—"quite possibly Marlboro," wrote Jim—was the brain behind the concert.
NOT REUNITING FOR GOOD. In a telephone interview with someone from Ely's camp, a source did mention that huge money was indeed involved though she downplayed the amount given by some of PEP's initial sources.
According to our source, the band, Ely in particular, relented because of the undying clamor pressed by the fans and not largely because of the money.
"Maybe it's a good way to finally close the chapter," our source, who requested anonymity, shared.
"The call for a reunion concert has been going on for a long time ever since they [Eraserheads] disbanded. Somehow this is bound to happen; it's just a matter kung kailan and who's going to sponsor. This is for all the fans and to celebrate na din the E-heads legacy. It'll be exciting and we're hoping that everybody would have a great time during the concert. Mas maganda nga sana kung nandoon lahat ng involved sa history ng band like the former managers."
Our source though stressed that the band won't re-form and that the concert is strictly a one day affair. Asked about the band members current relationship, she said that it is still the same although, "We'll see as this thing go along. I'm not really sure about Ely's feelings at this point. But his relationship with the two [Buddy and Marcus] was okay naman even before the reunion talks."
Again, we excitedly asked the possibility of the band reuniting for good. Perhaps the concert may finally lead the members to iron out their differences for good after seeing the amount of love and adulation they still enjoy from fans and fellow artists.
Pausing a little, our source heaved a sigh before saying, "I don't know. Honestly, I don't think that hugs and kisses would be exchanged during and after the concert. But still, who knows... at this point everything is still pretty much up in the air." - Philippine Entertainment Portal

maybe it's just me ha... pero im not really diggin' the whole idea na they're just doing this for the money... sad lang kasi isipin.
i mean i know it's a no-brainer for them... thats an easy 10mil in their pockets, but still... it just cheapens the whole experience.

I think kailangang ng local music industry ng konting angat, and ang reunion nato ay malaking tulong. i dont care if they're doing it for the money, maraming tao ang mapapasaya, maraming fance ang mabubuhayan ng luob. hopefully, uunlad ulit ang industria.

Sobrang ecstatic ko... Yehey!!! Honestly, ala ako masyado pakialam kung anong fishy details ang meron dito, basta reunion concert, tapos... (though sana for good na)... kaso there's one little detail... MINOR AKO... ibig sabihin ba nun di ako pwede sa concert nila kahit gusto kong manood kahit may bayad pa?!?! Just because I'm a freaking minor? Unfair ata... (sorry, mukha ata masyadong ranting yung post ko, but nonetheless, it's one ultimate frustration if ever di ba?)

*uck it man. i just had a terrible argument (while drinking) with my uncles. Sabi nila, bull daw talaga yung 2.5million per head para sa isang concert. basta.. ang daming explanation. dini-defend ko naman yung situasyon ng eheads and stuff although in my personal opinion, malabo nga din talaga. Sabi nila, marketing lang daw yun (and stuff) kaya sinabing 2.5million per head. malabo daw kasi talaga. nako. nasabihan pa ako ng [chewbacca] just for believing that eraserheads is worthy to be paid that much. Tingin nyo... totoo nga kaya? o haka haka lang? im so confused. hehe. kahit daw kasi 250k, di kaya yung ganung concert. Saan nila makukuha yung 10million pesos para lang sa eraserheads knowing na libre lang ang entrance? ang pinaka point ko e, advertisments. sigurado maraming magsusulputan dyan. basta.. ang haba. although di naman sila die hard fan ng eraserheads... talagang bull daw yun. hmm.. give me the light men. Should we really believe that eraserheads will be paid 10 MILLION PESOS just to perform a one night gig (reunion, sabi nga)? Do you think this info is absolutely true? Seriously, I think sponsors can put up an event like that. A major sponsor can shell out 1M MINIMUM and minor sponsors can go from 100K to .25M. And knowing how the eheads reunion can draw half the Philippine population, I think it's practically peanuts for the organizers to do that.
Why I said so? Kris Aquino earns 1M a week. Ogie Alcasid is said to have an asking Talent fee of 1M for large venues. Mani lang ang 10M for the eHeads.

ask mo nalang kung gano kalalakas mag yosi mga tito mo,..sabihin na nteng marlboro and philip pa ang niyoyosi nila tapos hindi lang sila ang taong nagyoyosi nun sa buong mundo o kya khet sa pinas na lang,..sa ganun na lang,.sisiw na sisiw sa philip morris o marlboro na company ang magbigay ng ganung kalaking pera para sa napaka special na event,..alam ko nga 10m sila per head eh,...ask mo na rin mga tito mo kung sila ooferan ng ganung kalaking halaga hindi ba sila papayag???kaya nga sinabing beatles ng pinas ang eheads kc sila ang pinaka phenomenal na band dito eh,..kaya siguro inisponsoran sila ng ganun,..posible po talaga yun,..malay nten totoo nga,..hehehe,..sana ninong ko yung apat na yun,..

Alam mo ba kung gaano kayaman si Lucio Tan? Sa kanya ang Fortune Tobacco, Tanduay Distilleries, Asia Brewery, PNB at Philippine Airlines. Sisiw na sisiw sa kanya ang P10M. (btw, ang alam ko P35M ang budget ng Marlboro for the whole thing) :wink:
In any case, the Eheads deserve every centavo of that P2.5M. 8-)

tama! sisiw lang ang 10M for the entire band ng eheads (actually yung 10M each ay medyo di pa ako naniniwala.) pero mani lang yung milyon-milyong pesoses kung eheads ang naman ang tutugtog. may local band kaming tinry patugtugin last year, .5M ang isang set nila. eh ano pa kaya yung eheads, na once-in-a-lifetime event lang at pinapangarap ng lahat ng ilang taon na?

I think that the fees that will be paid to the Eraserheads for the reunion concert is very justifiable from the point of view of Marlboro as athe major sponsor. It was a very smart move on their part to do this major coup de grace....and I salute the guys behind this event. I will guess some readons/rationale for Marlboro to mount this major concert and spend a fortune :
a) We already know that the law prohibiting cigarettes from advertisimg their products in radio TV and newspapers is already effective. Hence, they have excess budget in their corpororate funds that is dedicated to advertisements. So how will they spend it ?
b) Remember the law prohibits advertisements iin TV, radio and newspapares? However it doesnt prohibit Text messages and internet?
c) So, I guess, Marlboro will capitalize on Eraserheads to do the advertisement for them, in the following way :
1) No ticket selling : Marlboro wants you to register online (provided you are not a minor) so that they will be able to have access to your email address or cellphone..viola they have access to a new advertsing outlet....
2) Open field venue..... they can establish booths selling/giving away marlboro products....so just imagine the advertising mileage again
3) Sub sponsorship : Since malaki na itong event na ito at pinaguusapan na... Marlboro can easily ask other corporate sponsors to pay if they want to be a major or minor sponsors... of course Marlboro gets all of this sub advertisemenst......
So does it make sense fro Marlboro to spend a "fortune (cigarettes hahahahaha) for this concert?

So tatargetin nila yung "entity" na million ang follower at taga-hanga at ERASERHEAD lang isa sa may kaya non.

Actually nangyari na rin to... pero medyo hawig lang na sitwasyon. Wednesday night sa UP Fair yun some 6-7 years ago ata. Si Raimund daw umuwi dahil nagkaroon ng tampuhan, pero tumugtog naman siya with Sandwich. Ayun, walang kamalay-malay yung mga kumpol-kumpol na tao na di tutugtog ang eheads.
Yung host, si Romeo Lee, sabi onstage "UMUWI NA KAYO! DI NA TUTUGTOG ANG ERASERHEADS!" Akala naman ng mga tao nagbibiro siya. 4AM na noon alam ko.

because they'd be working on pretenses, no RELEVANT sources (unless yung apat ang interviewhin nila.) gusto ko nga i-email yung nagsulat dun sa pinoypress... nakalimutan ko yung website, nakita ko lang sa ML at binasa yung article. just wow, he wrote a whole article for bashing based on no real evidence na marlboro nga ang sponsor.

Well said... add ko pa, nasa pinas tayo... walang batas-batas kung ang masasagasaan 'yung nagpapatupad... alam ko big e-heads fans din karamihan, if not all, politicians natin... at kung sakaling may tumutol, a-attend naman siguro ang Marlboro personnel sa mga Congress Sessions na alam naman nating walang pupuntahan eh...

Kahit tumayo lang silang apat sa stage, at kumaway sa mga tao for 15 minutes, ok na ako dun! ;)
May naisip kaming scenario ng mga kabanda ko na kapag narinig at nakita nila yung reaction ng mga tao sa kanila, maaalala nila yung "good old days" nila.
Kahit na di pa muna mag-reunion ng full time, may parang seed na na maitatanim, na tipong, "Uy, pwede!..."

My friend has a friend who manages cambio and at the same time works for a tobacco company. mukhang hindi naman raw marlboro ang sponsor ng event e. hindi ko naman alam kung san maniniwala dahil maingay talaga ang balita na Philip Morris ang spearhead ng event na to.

According sa statement ni raimund marasigan regarding this. While their concert is pushing trough this August 30, a lot of the news are not true. Also I heard na this event is supposed to be bound into secrecy, but since nag leak out, maaaring naglalabas na lang sila ng mga misleading information, including who really are the organizers for this. Pero this is just my plain observation.
Anyway, I'm still waiting on how the tickets will be released, nagpa register na rin me sa marlboro para sigurado, I wouldnt miss this event.

Come to think of it... the Eraserheads weren't really known for their live act more than being known for the songs. So, kinda not exciting for me yung concert. The only exciting thing is that the mere fact that they're playing together. Pero, sabi nga ni skunk,

unahan ko lang ang mga die hard fans ha... di naman sa negative vibes to... pero i really gotta agree with skunk on this one.
we're not really wishing that they still have their youthful vibe and that they should wear chucks to the reunion gig.
i personally would love to watch a reunion where it's all about the music.
kahit ano pang sabihin ng iba... this particular gig would never happen kung wala ang milyones ng Marlboro.
im still waiting for that one gig where everything is genuine. it's not just about the songs for me... it's how those songs were made and played by 4 good friends...
...but who knows... hopefully the turnout nung crowd and the love they give to the band will strike a chord in each of the 4 guys hearts. emo-mode! oyeah! :-D

I think that the fees that will be paid to the Eraserheads for the reunion concert is very justifiable from the point of view of Marlboro as athe major sponsor. It was a very smart move on their part to do this major coup de grace....and I salute the guys behind this event. I will guess some readons/rationale for Marlboro to mount this major concert and spend a fortune :
a) We already know that the law prohibiting cigarettes from advertisimg their products in radio TV and newspapers is already effective. Hence, they have excess budget in their corpororate funds that is dedicated to advertisements. So how will they spend it ?
b) Remember the law prohibits advertisements iin TV, radio and newspapares? However it doesnt prohibit Text messages and internet?
c) So, I guess, Marlboro will capitalize on Eraserheads to do the advertisement for them, in the following way :
1) No ticket selling : Marlboro wants you to register online (provided you are not a minor) so that they will be able to have access to your email address or cellphone..viola they have access to a new advertsing outlet....
2) Open field venue..... they can establish booths selling/giving away marlboro products....so just imagine the advertising mileage again
3) Sub sponsorship : Since malaki na itong event na ito at pinaguusapan na... Marlboro can easily ask other corporate sponsors to pay if they want to be a major or minor sponsors... of course Marlboro gets all of this sub advertisemenst......
So does it make sense fro Marlboro to spend a "fortune (cigarettes hahahahaha) for this concert?

It is not surprising that Pinoy metal dudes eventually perform variety. It is not surprising that a lot of Pinoy RNB and Pop artists do what they do despite a strong love for Rock music.
Bottomline is, I am not surprised that the 'heads are doing it primarily because they are getting paid much, much more than 3 years gruel work on the road. But granting that it were easy to make money in the music biz, do you think they would reunite?

MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Health (DoH) said Philip Morris International Inc. has violated the Philippine tobacco law by sponsoring a rock band concert.
The DoH and other health groups were “exploring possibilities” of filing charges against the cigarette firm for sponsoring the Eraserheads Reunion Concert on August 30.
Philip Morris chief executive officer Louis C. Camilleri confirmed in a letter dated July 30 that the company will sponsor the concert, said Dr. Maricar Limpin, chairperson of the Council on Tobacco or Health and Air Pollution.
But Camilleri argued the concert was by “invitation only” and open only to adults who have registered online to Marlboro’s mailing list or the “Red List,” Limpin said, quoting the tobacco executive’s letter addressed to Matthew Myers of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFC).
“Invitations cannot be purchased and are not transferable. Controls will be in place at all entry points to the event to ensure that only persons with invitations are allowed to enter and to verify that they are adults by double checking their government-issued IDs,” Camilleri said in his letter.
Health Undersecretary Alexander Padilla said Philip Morris violated Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003, which prohibits tobacco advertising from sponsoring events like concerts.
Section 26 of RA 9211 states that starting July 1, 2008, cigarette manufacturers are “prohibited from sponsoring any sport, concert, cultural art or event, as well as individual and team athletes, artists, or performers where such sponsorship shall require or involve the advertisement or promotion of any cigarette or tobacco company, tobacco product or tobacco use, name, logo or trademarks and other words, symbols, designs, colors or other depictions commonly associated with or likely to identify with a tobacco product.”
Limpin said Philip Morris’ marketing strategy is “treachery at its worse” since one has to be a smoker or claim to be one in order to watch the concert.
“Even if Philip Morris does not put its brand name on any poster, billboard or material related to the Eraserheads concert, the public knows that to watch the concert, one has to be a member of the Marlboro Red List,” Limpin said.
To be included in the mailing list, one has to specify his or her brand of is cigarette, Limpin said, adding the online applicant also needs to submit contact information where Philip Morris can send promotional materials.
The DoH, the CTFC and other groups appealed to members of Eraserheads to reject Philip Morris’ sponsorship of the reunion concert.
“Considered one of the most influential bands in the country, Eraserheads has become a role model of sorts for our young, I hopes they will rise up to the challenge, do more than play music and help young Filipinos reach their potential—which they cannot achieve when they’re ill, or worse, dead,” Limpin said.
Padilla on the other hand, called on the organizers of the concert to “disassociate” themselves from products which are “killers.”
“Heed the law and help veer the youth to more productive activities,” Padilla said.
I think it also says a lot why there's no action on the Marlboro site.
I suggest we circulate this news article and make our voices heard about the concert NOT being a violation of the Tobacco Regulation Act so the concert can push through as planned.

The sad fact is that it ISN'T easy to make money in the local music biz. It never will be... because of the small market (and of course, piracy). In the US or Europe, all you need is one hit song, and you're made for life. We don't have that luxury. :|
By the way, look at it from a different angle: What if, because of this concert (plus their rehearsals, photoshoots, whatever), they become friends again, and one day make an album again or at least have another reunion concert "not for the money"? It is possible.
Wouldn't that make this reunion concert on Aug.30 much much more special??? :wink:

Never underestimate the power of missing your own ex-bandmates. Seryoso, I would have loved to play with Dale Ibay again - we used to be in a band together (Cookies for Kids). I heard he had gotten sick lately, and I regret that I haven't been able to jam with him again. Kahit ibang-iba tugtugan ko ngayon, I still want to play the basslines of the original songs we did back then - or learn his new ones. Iba na ang may pinagsamahan. Even if we had our differences, he was still my bandmate. Same with Inky de Dios (OBS/Brigada). we go a long ways back, high school pa, and kahit anong sabihin, kahit siguro nag away kami ng matindi (which we didn't), I would still like to play bass with him on the keyboards - which we did for some of the ToD Siege tour dates, when I played for OBS! It was so much fun, ang doon pa rin yung chemistry.
I firmly believe that even John and Paul would have eventually allowed a reunion, had John lived long enough.
So why not an Eheads reunion, for whatever reason? rather than focusing on all negativity, why don't you just focus on the music - kaya naman kayo nahilig sa Eheads di ba, kasi gumawa sila ng tugtugin na naging musika ng buhay ninyo?
eh kung puro "bakit kaya sila nag reunion, pera lang pala" ang iniisip ninyo...eh di huwag na kayong pumunta, as I keep on saying. Leave them alone, they're not kids anymore, and they've made their choices in life...which is no one's business except their own and their families.

By the way, look at it from a different angle: What if, because of this concert (plus their rehearsals, photoshoots, whatever), they become friends again, and one day make an album again or at least have another reunion concert "not for the money"? It is possible.

If they say na it's an invitation only for members .. meaning , ayaw nila yung mga "kids" na pumupunta lang ng gig para manggulo na maging cause ng problema ... Anyway , this is just a "one night only" event for the eheads so they might have thought na it's not going to hurt not opening the venue to the public ... They already paid the band an amount which they will not earn in one night di ba ?! I think gusto lang nila ma-control yung crowd and siguro , siguro lang .. Nakapag register na ako sa Marlboro pero kailangan ko pa magpa scan ng government ID and submit sa site nila para ma complete yung registration ...

nobody knew what to expect. it was a little uncomfortable since we havent communicated for a long time. but im pleased to announce that the band was playing better than i ever remembered. i guess we all did our homework haha.
i wont say how many songs we finished but it was a lot. there was a lot of drums and no drama.

I have new gears na hindi ko pa napag-aaralan gamitin so everything was stripped down to a clean sounding guitar at distorted guitar. saka ko na iload yun mga jumbo jets.

i said that for the people who tell other people that the only reason they are doing it is for the money. i dont believe it's all for the money. to prove the "only-in-for-the-money" audience of this thread wrong, that (why would they rehearse... blah blah) thought popped and there you go
yeah I got all that. what i don't quite get is the thought process behind that thought "why would they rehearse if it was only for the money?"
eg. lets say i was this famous actor... i've been acting long enough that i've become kinda jaded na with the whole acting thing... i only do movies for the money (eg. both Robert de Niro and Al Pacino have been criticized for chasing checks and not caring about the art of filmmaking anymore)
so back to my point... let's say I am that type of actor nga, i am offered a ridiculous amount of money for a movie role (yey! right?) eventhough I know I am only doing the movie for money, I'd still have to rehearse and memorize my lines with my fellow actors right? :wink:
...and no, the argument na "well this is different kasi they know their songs na inside and out, they've been playing it for years" doesn't hold too much ground i think. They still need to practice.
so that's what I'm saying... the whole "why would they bother rehearsing if they were in it for the money" theory doesn't prove a whole lot of anything.

yun nga. as for the actor example, their acting would still pretty much suck even if they rehearsed lines with the cast and all that.
for the 'heads situation, they can go meet up before the reunion, fix the set list and stuff, they can even skip on the whole meeting up part and let some guy organize the set. then on the night itself, play a sucky gig. they'd still get paid, tell people it's some other member's fault. tell people, nagkasakit kasi bigla yung isa kaya hindi full performance. tell people they weren't really destined to play as a group, yada yada.
but the eheads rehearsed.

Yet another 08/08/08 announcement (right up there with the Wolfgang "Villains" teaser, the release of Rico Blanco's "Your Universe", and of course - the opening of the Beijing Olympics) was Philip Morris Philippines finally 'fessing up and admitting their participation in the Eraserheads Reunion, and releasing details about the event. It's not a "sponsorship" they claimed, they are an organizer/promoter, and the show will go on - in effect doing a run around the party poopers that wanted the tobacco company to withdraw from the gig.

Hi Sir Jim,
Pasensya na po, noted! Brian's my bro and we just came out with NoyTee just days ago so medyo excited lang :-D
Also, we haven't claimed our shirt is 'official' po. Meron lang pong approval sa inner circle ng grupo since we sent the poster and shirt design to them. I personally seeked advice and approval from my good friend Ms. Cynthia Bauzon (designer of Fruitcake, Aloha, Natin99, Pillbox, etc) and Ms. Earnest Zabala for the design, and permission to print it and sell merch for the concert. All I can say here is that they are happy with the design and gave me a big go to DIY :-)
We're not affiliated with the organizers in any way and are doing this on our own as a way din to promote the event to likewise fans and give them a nice keepsake for the event. It was very important for us though na at least aware ang grupo ng Eheads with our work and actions, and what we're putting out is 100% fresh original design.
If you know Cynthia and Earnest personally, you may confirm this with them. I can oblige to share my emails if you need proof, just let me know.

As far as I know, kaya pang "adults" yung event kasi ang "sponsor" or should I say "Promoter" ng event is a tobacco company... Even if they already called you for the confirmation, kailangan mo pa din i flash yung Government issued ID sa event ... Promoters don't mind if they're crowd is "select" lang kasi they already have what they want and they will still get the revenue they're expecting even if they don't let the minors be in the event ... Recently, DOH and anti-smoking advocates have banded together to stop the Eraserheads reunion concert on the 30th, so there's a confusion right now. It might be possible that the show won't push through at all.

TULOY DAW ANG CONCERT according to Raimund Marasigan.
the venue is now in The Fort; it is no longer free. Phillip Morris and Marlboro have pulled out, and another company is taking over.
Details daw on the paper sometime this week.

after much ado. the eraserheads concert is most definitely pushing through.
philip morris and its brands have pulled out from the concert. but another company is taking over the production. the turn over started yesterday and they have already started work on the site in the fort. so you can check.
there are good news and bad news.
unfortunately its no longer free. all the long winded registration procedures in the red nation site is now void.
the good news is that the age limit is now 12 years old (for safety reasons)and tickets will be sold so you dont have to wait for confirmation and what not.
the official announcement and ticketing details will come out in major newspapers and on the radio on tuesday.
these are the only details i know for now so no need to email me. im just the drummer.
btw. i just got home from the last rehearsal. the band is cooking. we will see you all on the 30th.

Some updates
1. tumawag ako sa Ticketworld ngayon lang. Sila daw ang distributors ng tickets pero wala pa raw go-signal ng organizers. tawag daw ulit ako mamaya
2. i likewise called SONY BMG Phils. (the supposed organizer) but i did not get a positive answer. confidential pa daw lahat at mag-antay na lang daw ng press release.
And then some questions
1. Does it mean that Sony BMG is indeed the new organizer of the gig (As we all know, Phillip Morris backed out after a legal controversy about their sponsorship). Sabagay, many of us do not care kung sino man yan. Ang mahalaga lang naman is that the four get back together (albeit for one night only)... kaya nga napilitan tayong magsinungaling sa mga sagot natin sa The Red List ng Marlboro di ba? Hehe!
2. Kung bukas pa ilalabas yung tix, would it not be unfair sa fans na taga-malalayong lugar? swerte tayo at taga-manila lang tayo. pero yung iba? Wednesday na bukas at sa Saturday na yung concert, lapit na nun
3. at reliable kaya yung news sa PEP na 15 ang tickets? Showbiz website yun eh, hirap maniwala. Kung too man, di ba masyadong pricey yun? Dapat student-friendly yung rates nila di ba? kawawa ang mga estudianteng gusto manuod
4. now that Philip Moris is out of the picture, paano kaya yung changes sa talent fees nung 4? hehe just curious

I apologize for putting it bluntly, but I know most of us have been to the Summerslam and UP Fair concerts, and we have seen a lot of bad things in those events. Just imagine the same situation happening on a much bigger scale.
I can just imagine a number of those troublemakers hanging around the Eheads concert venue, mugging the concertgoers for tickets.
Ligtas nga tayo sa loob, pero alanganin naman sa labas.

as against to the press release that gen. admission ticket price is P1500, the TICKETWORLD, who would be releasing the reunion ticket, is selling the reunion ticket in two partisions:
P 2,060 - VIP P 1,030 - Backpart
di pa daw na-se-set ang limitations for VIP. and it would be standing room for both prices.

Super hassle, ang mahal pa naman ng tickets, or are they going to sell it sa venue na mismo. kasi kung ganitong gipit, mahirap, lalo na yung nasa work, na after office hours lang libre...

Magkukwento lang ako nang kaunti...
2pm -pumunta kami ng brod ko na si Ralph sa National Bookstore Cubao kung saan may Ticketworld outlet. Sabi ni Vanessa, yung ticketworld employee, wala pa raw final word from their main office. so tumambay muna kami sa Gateway at dun nagbasa (parehas kaming law student kaya dapat talaga hehe)
past 3pm- balik kami sa National pero ala pa rin. by this time, andami na ring dumadaan at tumatawag para mambulabog. Kinuha na lang ni Vanessa yung mobile number ko, tetext nya raw ako pag meron na. Balik kami sa Gateway para bumalik sa pagbabasa]
5pm - nakaramadam na kami na wala ng pag-asa na ilabas yung tickets kaya nag-decide kami na umalis na lang. Ako papunta sa school, si Ralph, pauwi ng bahay
5:49pm - nasa klase na ako nito, Remedial Law Review. Biglang nagtext si Vanessa: "Sir, nakaonline na po ang eraserheads tickets."

Hi guys - I got a message from Sancho saying Ely's mom died this morning - went into a cardiac arrest after surgery. The guy is in grief so prayers, condolences for the man might be in order to give him strength and solace. Those of you who have lost parents know what I mean.

Yey! may ticket na ako, sa patron ako mamaya...sa wakas, mapapanood ko na rin itong grupong ito. Dati di pa sila naglalabas ng unang album, nababasa ko na ang tungkol sa kanila, I remember poor man's grave pa at toyang yung featured songs, kaso that time, wala akong idea sa tono, kasi, sa province pa ako nun, nababasa ko lang ang tungkol sa club dredd, eraserheads and the other bands in that era. And the ultraelectromagneticpop album was yet to be released, pero rock n rhythm gave them the much needed spot kahit di pa sila sikat. I think yung limited edition pop-u palang meron nun.

Today, Saturday is actually my duty day to be the Manager-in charge. The first call I got is from Ely. We made some arrangements for her mom's wake. Before our conversation ends, Ely asked me... "Do you wanna go to our concert later? If you want to, I could have you in my guest list.." Huh?! Ano daw?! :-o Muntikan ako mahulog sa upuan ko! Of course! Sino kaya ang makakatanggi dun? Ely said... "text mo na lang sakin exact names niyo ng pupunta". Yahoo!!! Pupunta kami ng wife ko! Teka nga pala.... Duty nga pala ako! Whaaaa! Siyempre nataranta ako! as far as i can remember, there were 15 songs, eto ang mga naalala ko
alapaap(1st song), sembreak, kailan, fruitcake, hey jay, shake yer head, with a smile, kamasupra, kaliwete, huwag mo ng itanong, lightyears (last song, after nito napaupo or napaluhod na si ely at tinulungan na tumayo). aaarrgghhhh... may nakalimutan ata ako. :-D

here is inside info:
after singing fruitcake (last song before intermission), ely sat down on stage and needed assistance to go to backstage... once backstage, he lay on his back and was really not feeling well..buddy saw him when he just when paramedics were getting his blood pressure and stuff within 5 mins, stretchers were there to bring him to hospital...he had chest pains due to overfatigue...
lets commend the guy...he was not feeling well the whole time but then he still finished first set and was even shouting and enjoying it...
there's an interview of raims and buds at tv patrol..all is ok between the three of them...all these tragedies are actually keeping them closer (sorry for the reference)...the whole band visited ely's mom before she passed away...they even visited her wake...
relax people....there might a 2nd 1st time reunion

Guys: the Eheads were never crowd-friendly in the showbiz way ever since. Sa lagay kanina, Ely was already being very happy.
When Ely sat on the stage before the lights went down I thought it was one of those "artistic moments" (naka-focus yugn camera sa kanya), or pissed because Marcus' monitors and setup kept on malfunctioning. Yun pala he wasn't feeling well already.

I concur with that. While they were all playing well as individuals, I didn't get to feel the "lock" when it comes to playing as a band. It's probably also a function of how the stage was set up - each one in their own instrumental bubble/stage. Add to that the fact that it may still have felt somehow awkward to be doing the concert, and well, there you go.

hinde tol. parang natataasan ako eh. pansinin mo yung riff ng kamasupra parang mataas ng konting-konte sa standard. nung yung danelectro yung gitara nya at yung strat parang okey naman e. wala naman dapat effect yung layo diba? though hindi rin kami masyadong malayo - nasa patron kami sa harap din halos. pansin rin ni jamming_papu. o tenga lang namin...

Grabe kagabi... Sobrang magical ng experience.... Lahat may respeto sa isa't-isa. Sobrang baet ng mga tao. Iba talaga impact ng Eraserheads. Nung nag-announce na sila na putol yung concert, wala ko narinig na nagreklamo (including myself). Maraming nabitin... Pero okay lang...
"Di bale ng naputol yung concert, kesa naman may mangyaring masama..."
Ang naobserbahan ko lang kagabi, medyo sumasablay na rin ang audio equipment. Napuputol na yung tunog. Hindi na kaya ng speakers. Siguro kung nagpatuloy pa yung concert, malamang baka magkalat pa sila. Chaka sobrang kawawa naman si Ely. Kamamatay lang ng mom nya. Sobrang stressful talaga sa part nya. Despite his stressful situation, tumugtog pa rin siya. Napaka-professional talaga nila Ely. Siguro hindi pa talaga eto yung tamang panahon para magconcert sila. Tamang patikim pa lang to para sa ating lahat.
Sana talaga may Part 2!!
Maraming salamat sa organizer na nagsalba nung event. Pinasaya nyo kami. :-D

Naka Eb tuning sila actually... :lol: Si Marcus naka-.11 (sa tele), Si Ely naka-.10 (Sa black squier strat) Guitar911 yung nag-set up ng guitars nila bago mag-concert kaya alam ko :wink:

there was one particular moment that stuck with me...this was when both Ely and Raims had their hands raised up..in a 45-degree angle...during an acapella ad lib of a song i can't friggin' remember. this was unforgettable. :-)

that's good to know dyugs & very technical too. what i meant though is that parang sharp ng konting-konte yung tele ni markus. pansin ko yon minsan nung may pentatonic na mga riffs. but as i've said, baka tenga lang namin ni jamming_papu ang may problema. hehe..
@rajhan, paano kaya kapag pina-auction yung gitarang yun???

yup agree, can afford naman siguro ang promoters to at least give this to those who attended and bought tickets for the reunion last saturday. Kahit na 50% discount lang. We're not asking naman to honor the old ticket completely because I'm sure they will have to shell out extra money again just to hold the part 2 of the concert. Mabigat din kasi siyempre sa iba iyong P1,300 lalo dun sa mga nag ipon para dun sa concert last Saturday. Konting kawang gawa lang naman for the promoters.hehe

Surgery pala ang dahilan kung bakit nilipat si Ely kanina sa Heart Center... haaay, buti na lang ok na daw... wala akong pakialam kahit matagalan pa ang part 2 kung meron man..importante makapahinga siya ng mabuti at pag dumating na yung time ng part 2, dapat 100% ang health niya.. :-)

Ely Buendia undergoes angioplasty; 3rd since 2007 heart attack
The manager of Ely Buendia confirmed Monday that the former Eraserheads frontman underwent another angioplasty procedure Monday morning following the band's Saturday reunion concert that was cut short by his hospitalization.
Day Cabuhat, who manages Buendia and his current band Pupil, confirmed that the singer underwent heart surgery earlier in the day. Cabuhat said that the blood vessel that was operated upon is now "100 percent fully restored". She said Buendia is recovering.
An official statement from Radio Head Media Solutions, the producer of the Eraserheads reunion concert, meanwhile, said the band vocalist suffered from "extreme exhaustion" Saturday night. It said Buendia is in "stable condition but still under observation."
On Sunday, record label Sony BMG, told ABS-CBN News that Buendia suffered from hypokalemia, a medical condition in which the concentration of potassium in the blood is low. He was administered with a potassium intravenous fluid for the said condition, the record label added.
Buendia experienced chest pains and reportedly collapsed backstage after the first set of the long-awaited reunion concert, held at the Fort Bonifacio Open Field in Taguig City.
He was transferred to the Philippine Heart Center (PHC) around 1 a.m. Sunday after being treated at the Makati Medical Center's emergency room.
The concert was cut short because of the emergency, While Buendia was being rushed to the hospital, his former bandmates Raimund Marasigan, Buddy Zabala and Marcus Adoro, accompanied by his sister Lally, relayed the unfortunate incident to the fans at the concert.
Buendia, 37, had a previous heart attack in January 2007. He previously underwent two angioplasty procedures (a surgical operation where narrowed or blocked arteries are widened) at the PHC after doctors found at least two blockages in his arteries.
Doctors said the singer has a history of heart disease in his family and was genetically predisposed to it.
Friends, fans react
On Sunday, Buendia's friend, filmmaker Joyce Bernal, denied that the singer suffered a heart attack. She said Buendia suffered chest pains due to the stress brought about by his mother's recent death and exhaustion due to the rehearsals for the concert.
Buendia's mother died of cardiac arrest early morning of August 28. She had been recovering from surgery done just days before to treat her intestinal cancer.
MTV Philippines head Francis Lumen, who co-produced the concert, said that Buendia is resting to recover from stress and exhaustion.
Buendia's family is requesting the media to refrain from interviews and shooting video of the singer.
Bandmembers and Buendia's sister informed the crowd about what happened to the singer, and announced at the concert that the Eraserheads' frontman "is in a lot of physical and emotional stress lately."
Despite his mother's death on August 28, the former Eraserheads vocalist decided to push through with the concert, anyway.
Concert problems
The Eraserheads reunion concert became controversial after its first sponsor, cigarette-maker Philip Morris, was accused of violating Philippine laws prohibiting tobacco companies from sponsoring concerts and other promotional events.
When Philip Morris pulled out of the production due to legal concerns, it was Lumen who took over the sponsorship of the show.
Marasigan said Buendia still pushed through in participating in their reunion concert even with the stress he had gone through lately.
While plans for a DVD release of the concert is being proposed, Marasigan, Zabala and Adoro are still hoping they would all get together onstage soon and perform as the Eraserheads one more time.
The Eraserheads, formed in the late 1980s, was the most successful Filipino band of the 1990s, and is widely credited for reviving the Filipino band scene.

I visited Ely kanina (kasama ng GF ko at ni Julie Tearjerky) He looked fine and well rested. :-) Nakaka-upo at naka-cross-legs na nga sya, at kumain pa ng callos!! :lol: Hopefully daw makalabas na sya bukas.
Sabi nya, dumaan din daw si Gary V. earlier, at nag-pray-over pa sa kanya :-) Naka-visit na din sina Buddy, Raimund and Marcus several times.
Ayun... Sana tuloy-tuloy na ang pag-galing niya. Salamat sa mga dasal at supporta! MABUHAY ANG ERASERHEADS! Mabuhay tayong lahat! :-D

here's what WOULD HAVE happened had Ely been able to continue with the concert.
We were all supposed to dance the Huling El Bimbo with a fantastic fireworks display. It was going to be the perfect song to end a perfect concert.
I know because my sister said so. She was one of the band's PAs (guess which one!) and was there during the production meetings. On Sunday morning, as we gathered for our family lunch, she told us what was supposed to go down during the Eheads concert.
The first set went exactly as planned, except of course for Ely's collapse. To refresh your memory, these are the songs we heard:
1. Alapaap 2. Ligaya 3. Sembreak 4. Hey Jay 5. Harana 6. Fruitcake 7. Toyang 8. Kama Supra 9. Kailan 10. Wag Kang Matakot 11. Kaliwete 12. With A Smile 13. Shake Yer Head 14. Wag Mo Nang Itanong 15. Lightyears
During the second set, the band was to sing ten more songs, in this order:
1. Maskara 2. Poor Man's Grave 3. Torpedo 4. Trip to Jerusalem 5. Back To Me 6. walang Nagbago 7. Maling Akala 8. Tikman 9. Spoliarium 10.Magasin
When Magasin was to be played, the screen behind them would have montages of various news and magazine clippings of them. It would flash alternately with shots of the band and audience until the song reached the coda where Ely sings "...ay centerfold ka naaaa...woo hoo- hoo, haaa-haaa" part of the song. Then there would be fire works and a fountain of sparks, going on til the last note of the song. Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered and the band would make a "fake ending".
The lights would then go out.
My sister said the band would wait til the crowd chanted "more". "It would take two beers' worth of chanting "more" she said. Then in the darkness, a very dramatic keyboard solo would be heard, and it would be the opening chords of Para Sa Masa.
The hydraulic stage would rise again and there they would be.
After Para Sa Masa, they'd switch into Overdrive. With the crowd pumped within an inch of insanity they were to hit us with Pare Ko. And then we would slow down and reminisce with Minsan.
Finally, they would perform Huling El Bimbo. Again, after the last refrain, at the coda (la la la laaa...) the grand fireworks display would go off, fountains of light surrounding the stage. The next la- la-la parts would see fireworks from behind the general admissions section, and as the song ended there would be a burst of confetti all over the audience.
Then the hydraulic stage would be lowered for the final exit.
Those were the plans for the Ultraelectromagneti c night. It may not have happened as planned but at least we knew they were going to give us a show we would never forget!
We asked my sister if the band knew about all these plans and she said they did. In fact they were so excited about all the gimmicks and couldn't wait to party with the audience. "Nag-usap pa nga sila kung may mga kailangang saluhin na kanta just in case (di na kaya ni Ely)," she said. "And Ely said, hindi, Kakanta ako!"

holy sh*t. two encores tapos buong favorite songs ko kakantahin sana nila. This is the perfect setlist. parang kinakanta sayo ang buong album catalog nila. talagang pupunta ako sa "Eraserheads: The Second Coming" :-D. pag parang ganito ang mangyayari sa susunod, handa na akong mamatay.

that's good to know dyugs & very technical too. what i meant though is that parang sharp ng konting-konte yung tele ni markus. pansin ko yon minsan nung may pentatonic na mga riffs. but as i've said, baka tenga lang namin ni jamming_papu ang may problema. hehe..
@rajhan, paano kaya kapag pina-auction yung gitarang yun???
i'm sure, if ever, maramimg mgkaka-interest dun,mostly yung mga big time artists na na nasa eksena na...
astig din nung 12 string ni marcus, yung ginamit nya sa hwag mu nang itanong. anung brand and model un? :-)

ganda nung yamaha na gamit ni ely eh, front back and sides ay flamed.
actually, the CPX900 has solid spruce top and flamed maple back and sides (in short, laminate hindi solid wood). i planned to purchase one of these nung unang lumabas because of the new ART pickup system. pero sobrang mahal talaga ang pricing sa local distributor (alam naman natin kung sino). :-)

Di ko sure yung exact model #, pero oo Yamaha nga yun. :-)
yamaha cpx-900.. ang mahal nyan, ahahaha..! astig nga yung gitara na yan, apx-700 ung aken wala na ako masabi, panu pa kaya yan, hehe..! :-)
jugs..! sorry.. hehe... off topic sa eheads concert..
meron akong vintage na burns electric guitar (not so sure of the model) pero tanda ko parang v-flyte... parang 1960's pa ata to di na gumagana pick ups nya.. tsaka panget na ung finish kase nirepaint na sya...
magagawan ba ng paraan sa guitar911 yun para magamit ko ulit yun..? salamats..!

Well, in a way, siguro naglalabas lang sila ng sama ng loob.
Personally, I gave up my VIP pass para makasama ko gf ko sa patron. Medyo malayo nga naman, parang pakiramdam ko outsider ako. Hindi ko naisip na mandaya at ibigay na lang yung pass ko sa gf ko e. Hehe.
Naalala ko lang din yung dalawang konyo na nanlait pa sa spot namin sa patron. As in nagpa-picture pa sila na kami yung background, placing the L sign on their foreheads.
Well, iniisip ko na lang na soon enough, nasa taas na rin ako ng industry. Konting paghihintay na lang. :-)

Parang GET WELL CARD para kay Ely. Ang sweet, di ba? And parati niyang dinadalaw si Ely sa hospital. And sa sobra nilang close, tinginan pa lang, alam na nila ang sinasabi ng isa't isa! :cry:

Anyway, as an E-heads fan, I respect his views... Perhaps, personal differences nga talaga and it's normal for a band... I think on that part, naiintindihan ko sya... No one knows the whole story and the members themselves won't say a thing except for "Magulo noon eh..." and I think we're all aware naman about the Ely-Raimund feud...
So far, mukha namang masaya na si Raimund... Siguro for promotional and special projects na lang yung Eraserheads... If only these 2 guys could only be touched by their respective guardian angels... *sigh* :|

IMO nasa kay Raymund taLaga at ELy ang probLema, sa pagkaka-intindi ko sa mga sagot ni Buddy at Marcus parang gustong-gusto taLaga niLang mag-reunite siLa as Eheads again, at sa side ni Raymund para taLagang ayaw na nya :cry:

I was watching Showbiz Central sa GMA-7 and nagpa-interview ng live si Ely ... Syempre what do you expect ? eh di puro mga questions na alam na natin lahat ... Pero yung last question ni Pia kay Ely is kung possible na magkarepeat concert ..
Sabi ni Ely , bitin sya , bitin sila and posible para sa mom nya and sa mga eheads fans ... Let's wait and see na lang daw kasi magpapahinga pa daw si Ely ..

I was watching Showbiz Central sa GMA-7 and nagpa-interview ng live si Ely ... Syempre what do you expect ? eh di puro mga questions na alam na natin lahat ... Pero yung last question ni Pia kay Ely is kung possible na magkarepeat concert ..
Sabi ni Ely , bitin sya , bitin sila and posible para sa mom nya and sa mga eheads fans ... Let's wait and see na lang daw kasi magpapahinga pa daw si Ely ..
oks ito.. tapos kung matuloy ang repeat concert eh sabay sabay tayong sumigaw ng "ALBUM!!" "ALBUM!!" "ALBUM!!" pagtapos ng every set.. :lol:

haha! sama na din nila yung fruitcake acoustic performance nila sa isang radiostation when they were promoting their fruitcake album! i have that on mp3, also the pop u, some live performance, etc! :-D

Sabi sa akin sa Music One sa Glorietta eh magkakaroon daw sila ng boxed set ng album ng eraserheads. around 2k-3k ang price nila at kumukuha na sila ng magpapareserve. yung itsura raw ng case eh gitara basta yun ang sabi sa akin :-)

Eto, nakita ko lang kumakalat na bootleg nung Reunion Concert nila:
uy out na pala pero wait ko na lang yung CD-DVD combo kung magkakaroon man di kasi ako nakapunta sa actual concert
malabo ata ang DVD bro. youtube maraming vids of the concert. :-D
