I lost my thread. Oh Well...
I like elixir strings because they sound great, and they feel divine under the fingertips. They can also be pick savers. My picking hand is now more relaxed thanks to their technology, less fatigue.
I'm currently using 10-56's nano's on my 7 string, and 9-42's 0r 46 on my 6 string.

nawala nga thread mo bro, elixir din main strings ko. nano 9s for electric and poly 10s and 11s for acoustic. i switched to cleartones before but i'm back to elixirs. mas cheaper @ $180.00 for a box of twenties compared to cleartones.

from my experience, i don't hear any real difference in sound. they both last long medyo madulas lang ang cleartones but they cost more @ $12.99 per set (you'll get a free t-shirt if you buy a box of twenties).

Thanks to Lyric for bringing Elixir in. I regularly order mine from sweetwater. Been using it for 4 months now. never going back to balls or addarios again :-)

Had a couple of hard gigs for the past few weeks...Still shiny...still sounds new despite drench in sweat. Wear and tear on the picking area which is normal..Still going!!! Gotta love Elixir's.
I tried playing a with regular strings, my smile just vanished. Playing back to regular strings isn't right anymore. I'm sticking with Elixir's, i enjoy playing the guitar now, don't get tired of picking too!

Actually, it might turn out just as expensive (or maybe even cheaper) than your typical string set. Why? Because you won't have to change them out as often. :)

thought about that too but my parents are so unwilling to shell out some money :)) it's understandable. sanay sila sa string sets that are like P300

Replaced all my string on my guitars with elixir.
The oldest one is 1 month old already. Still no rust. Just a few wears on the picking side.

The Elixir Polyweb 10s has been on my Ibanez S570B for 4 months (and counting) now and they're just starting to wear. My Fernandes Tele has had Nanoweb 10s for around 2 1/2 months.
Great value for money. Normal strings barely last a month under my fingers. :)

We have experienced a temporary disruption in the supply of a raw material. This raw material is used for anti-rust plain steel strings only.
This temporary disruption does not affect the wound strings, so no changes to any strings with NANOWEB® or POLYWEB® Coating.
In the meantime, we resumed production of our original plain steel strings, and you are seeing some of those sets in the stores now, without the anti-rust statement on the package. You can read more about it, with a few FAQs, at http://www.elixirstrings.com/product...art/index.html.
We expect to return to the anti-rust plain steels shortly, and we'll make an announcement on our website and Facebook Page when we do.

Anyone check if Lyric already has some plain ones? If not, one could still buy up some older strings. I'm thinking a few will be enough for about a year or so (3-4 packs a year, marami na yun). Enough time for them to resolve the issue.

buti nalang.. phew.. anyways. installed elixirs on my new jem. the one on my egen is on 3 months+ already and doesn't even show any signs of rust, tarnish or any type of oxidation. the tone is still fresh.. rawr.. gonna stow me some more until elixir resolves its material problems.

Got my set of 7 string last night at trinoma.
Ok, after remembering that elixir temporarily stopped producing coated strings for the plain steels, I checked out my oldest elixir last night. May kaunting rusts na siya sa ilalim ng strings. Pinadulas ko isang tissue paper and yes, meron na ngang rusts. Hindi pala ako umabot sa sets na lahat coated ung strings. Although, I still commend elixir for having the anti rust plain steels. Hindi parin siya ganon kabilis mangalawang. I hope magtagal pa. Kasi I only found out the elixir issue after buying 4 sets of strings. Sana hindi sayang.

some thought, yung box ba nung walang anti-rust steel strings may nakalagay padin bang "anti-rust"? or wala na? kasi i am really worried kung meron pang anti-rust sakin. i just bought a set from lyric 1 or 2 months ago. may nakalagay naman na with anti-rust. i saw some pics of the boxes sa google and other forums. parati nila pinapakitang box ganito :

do you mean plated? i read some other threads and google, they're the same. and on the elixir website they're using the "antirust plain" and "anti rust plated plain" terms interchangeably which opted me to conclude that it is the same.

Na-try ko na ang Elixir strings. They do last long and madulas sa kamay. Pero they lack the "brightness" of the un-coated strings.

I don't think you need to change brands if the one you're using is working for you. One year is a feat. I even can't make normal strings last a month.
Pero pag nag-Elixir ka, baka hindi ka na gumastos ulit para sa strings. Forever na yan. Ready ka na ba para sa ganung commitment?

haha mukha nga! di nmn siguro baka 2x a year na dn..sabagay noong may trabaho pa tayo eh palit din ng strings every 3 months kahit di pa gaano luma ang strings..sarap lng tlga tunog at feel ng bagong string..ive heard the elixirs feel and sound new even after weeks of use..cant wait!

ganito sya sir even if punas before and after use ka?
got mine 7 months na(bought it last august). still new. what i do : punas parati every after playing, lubricate it with mineral oil before and after playing(works for me. reduces friction of the pick against the coating.). btw, d'addarios last only 3 weeks with me..:D

Elixir strings will be very subjective to a lot of different players chemical makeup, playing style and usage. Strings can last 3 to 5 months, some even longer. It varies from player to player but the strings are worth it!!!

yep bro me dalwang klase ng technology merun ang elixir string one is nanoweb which is more thick ung feeling mas bright in my opinion mas traditional ung feeling para sa akin.... ok den polyweb kc mas makapal coating ng string mas makintab pero tingin ko mas bright ung nanowebs sa feel halos parehas lng sila :-D

Here is a message i got from Elixir.
I reviewed the images sent by Jay Naoe. The pictures show very deep fret marks on all strings, suggesting significant usage over the stated 2-3 month time period. It is important to note that all guitar strings wear as they are played. The amount wear is based on the forces acting on the strings like the force to fret or the aggressiveness of strumming.
Elixir Strings have an Anti-Rust plating on our plain steel strings which lasts 3-5X longer than standard tin plated steel strings when exposed to sweat. However the actual use life of a guitar string will vary from player to player and eventually all guitar strings will fail. While it is difficult to make a definitive statement from these pictures, it appears these strings have simply degraded after heavy use over an extended period of time. The images are in-line with our expectations for a string at the end of life and should not be considered defective.

elixir user here (for bass), mas matagal talaga tone and brightness of the strings no question dun, but it seems na pag pinupunasan sya mas mabilis na mawala ang coating , so i just let it be before and after playing, or if wipe it not as vigorously as i will wipe non coated string.Ganun din yung friend ko who uses it for his acoustics, i never even see him wipe it.

i have it on my acoustic and totoo nga lahat ng sinasabi tungkol sa elixir mas matagal nga pawisin kasi kamay ko and usually 2-3weeks lang tumatagal ang strings sakin pero ngayon 3months na yung strings ko na yun and ganun pa din makinis and ung tone nya may sipa pa din unlike sa dating brand na gamit ko patay na tunog...yung sa electric guitar ko mag eelixir na rin ako wala pa kasi ko time bumili ngayon...
BTW:tinry ko di punasan ung strings ko kahit na pawisin kamay ko just to test kung totoo nga ung sinasabi nila about sa elixir ayun nga astig totoo nga hehe laking tipid para sakin!

Natural lang naman kasi na pawisin ang kamay at natural din na nangangalawang ang strings.. Pero it only takes 20 sec to wipe the strings. That kind effort goes a long way already

Yes. He reserved those two for me weeks ago. Now I have them. I also got a couple of 0.52 for my low b string for my 7 as well as gauge 11 set. :) Can't wait to put these on. Medyo good condition pa current strings ko so di ko muna lalagay. :D

Hey guys, I love the Elixir Nanowebs. I just bought a set of Elixir Nanoweb bass strings and I love the tone. I also have two Elixir Nanoweb 10s for my telly's. Great tone and feel. Definitely won't go back to normal strings.
I have an issue though, I broke the A string of my other set the other day only after one month which I find strange since most of the people in this thread doesn't seem to have the same issue as me. Has this happened to anyone else?
Is Lyric or anyone else selling Elixirs per string aside from per pack? I'm aware that Lyric sells only the high E string in some of the branches I've checked. It's quite expensive to replace per pack if I break only one :(

Ernie Ball Strings last me at least a month or two and sometimes it goes up to four months sa akin. :) Tamang linis lang. So malamang ito maglalast talaga haha! :) Let me know ha, text mo ako. :wink:
Sana maging available sa Lyric ang 0.52 na isahan at ung iba para di na ako oorder online nitong isahan hehe. :P

No special scenario naman, band practice lang then naputol bigla mid song. Typical way strings break pretty much pero ang bilis lang talaga. I've lasted a few more months with Dunlop sets.
Maybe it's just one of those days, or maybe I'm doing something wrong. I dunno really. Tingin ko tsamba lang na naputol haha
Nevertheless my opinion on Elixirs won't change. I love em!

To follow up macmackerz query: How long does elixir lasts not in terms of rusting but in terms of snapping?
if snapping meant string breakage, my fastest time that i've experienced is 15mins. the coils on the low e string got dragged by the saddle. (i guess it's because i cut the ball ends wrong) lol.. :lol: good for me, it was double locking so i unwind the strings from the tuners and recycle it. lol.. :-D

Just wondering... given na matagal naman talaga yung life ng mga Elixir, matibay din ba ito for extreme bending?
Say four months of 2-3x of gigging. 2-3x of practice. Still going. Yet it is still subjective to different players. Even for kaskaseros who don't have respect for their instruments say it lasts quite awhile.

I love Elixir strings but there's just one thing that's bothering me, the underside of the 1, 2 and 3 strings get stuck when I'm trying to bend it considering I always clean my strings before and after playing. I don't know why but it's the same POLYWEB/NANOWEB.

How long have you been playing the set? That's the anti rust coating peeling away from the 1, 2 and 3rd string. It's a natural phenomenon. If you play regularly and bend a lot, any coated string will degrade eventually.
Another thing is maybe your frets have gashes?

Normal lang. Sakin naman important na ung coating di pa natatanggal sa fretboard side. Almost 3 months na ata akin. All the sets still look new.

I've tried countless string brands, from the cheap ones to those expensive sets that easily gets rusts after a couple of days the fastest, but with Elixir I have no regrets, my money is worth every penny 3 months and still feels like fresh from the pack sulit sobra! If Elixir would endorse me for Elixir Nanoweb products, no 2nd thoughts pipirma na agad ako kahit may quota quota pa! Elixir is the String of Life!

my set lasted 1 1/2 months. Bale 5 days straight gigs per week. Nakakatakot kc bigla bigla nalang naputol. Hehe.
woaw ambilis. yung sakin no signs of wear. mag 1 year na.. the other set since october pa. :eek: anyways, imma buy a new set for my tele later. di pa kasi nakaelixirs yun. di ko pa napapalitan ng strings eversince i acquired it nung december. gonna get nanos again. di ko talaga trip yung feel ng polys at parang hindi bagay sa tele..

woaw ambilis. yung sakin no signs of wear. mag 1 year na.. the other set since october pa. :eek: anyways, imma buy a new set for my tele later. di pa kasi nakaelixirs yun. di ko pa napapalitan ng strings eversince i acquired it nung december. gonna get nanos again. di ko talaga trip yung feel ng polys at parang hindi bagay sa tele..
oo nga eh. Baka dahil na din sa daming gigs. Next time nano naman bibilhin ko.

kasi kapag pume-pwesto ka 5 o 6x a week,dun mo talaga matetest kung matibay yung strings,pero kung bedroom/weekend gigs lang,di masyadong stressed yung strings.

It is also very subjective lalo na if you are a heavy picker. Had a lot of gigs using a trem equipped guitar, pulling on the bar violently, for 3-4 months straight no broken strings yet.

Every time you use other strings, they tarnish and get ugly real fast, with Elixirs, it'll take awhile before they get to that. You can spend on other brands 2-3x a month on string changes than one string change of Elixir that would last 3-6 months. You do the math.
Still subjective to different players. Mine lasts for 4 months. Not bad at all. That's why i never looked back at other strings anymore.

kasama na ako for about 2 months na ata. oo pare di hamak na ok sa eball. no stir. dati need ko pa magfast fret para sumarap ang dulas ito ok na ok pa rin. ang ganda pa ng tone! ok din midrange nya

i have tried nanoweb. gusto ko yung dulas niya, sarap magslide and yung tone di nagbago from day 1 up to the day na tinanggal ko siya. it stayed on my guitar for a month. after 2 weeks of use nagkaroon na ng sandy/grity feeling yung treble strings pag nagbebend up/down ako kaya 1 month lang inabot. another thing na di ko nagustuhan is 10s yung kinabit ko pero parang 11s yung feel.
i will try polyweb 9s baka mas magustuhan ko. :)

how does you gig last, paps? kasi kapag sa pwesto usually 3 sets of 45 (2.25hrs) or 2 sets of 1.5hrs(3hrs)

one to two sets depending on venue, none stop of picking and fretting all over the board for technical playing, and abusive whammy use.
Normal strings, less than a few days palit na ako, either naputulan or intonation has gone bad because the strings are heavily dented by the frets.

Sobrang pawisin ang kamay ko pero 2 days na makintab parin tong nasa acoustic ko. Unlike sa ibang brand na 15 mins ko palang magamit eh grayish na agad. Pareho lang ung feel nya sa ibang brand.
Pwede pa sigurong ibenta ito ng mas mura kahit gamit na hahaha

bought my set of 10's Polyweb last Dec. 2011 ( coz of this thread :-D ), 4 to 5 gigs after konting fastfret lang after gig, tapos wala pang gig this January... STILL NO SIGNS OF KALAWANG!

so that's why, i do only twice a week gigging but everyday practice in an airconditioned room.. thanks for the info sir..:)

I once use Elixir .09 the one with anti rust at nanoweb daw , since ang habol ko is yung anti rusting ng string dahil yung ang madalas kong problem pag inistore ko ang guitar ko. pero it only gives me disappointment dahil, nung ininstall ko yung elixir I only use it in one of my gig and store it for a couple of months siguro 4-6 months, it is already full of rust and it breaks pagkalabas ko sa bag, the only string that really survive sa akin lately is yung ghs which last more than a year na nakaistore, I use it after installation and after one year. But in regards sa tunog ng Elixir, its kinda bright which is good for riff and leads which I love, disappoint lang talaga ako dun sa anti rusting na hindi naman nangyari in my end. :cry:

It's weird but I like how the wound strings on Polyweb sets feel just a tad plastic-y and sound slightly more muffled than normal strings.

If there's nothing wrong with your guitar (sharp edges, etc.), there's nothing to worry about. A set of Polywebs lasts me around six months. Malakas akong mag pick at madalas akong mag bend.

I have elixirs on my gigging guitar for 2 months na,i don't think it will last for a year,namamalat na kasi (siguro kung brdroom guitarist ka)....tapos mejo slight sintunado na. If you're a lead player o kaya power chords lang,malamang tatagal to sa gtr mo,pero kung kaskasero ka o mahilg sa funky rhythm,mabilis mag-himulmol yung coating. On the good side,maganda yung tunog ng strings,really spanky and sparkly parin after 2 months,saka matibay. :)

Pero di ba mas talo ka kung regular strings ang gamit mo? Regular din akong nagi-gig, pag elixir ang gamit ko every 3-4 weeks ang palit ko pero no maintenance yon pero kung regular strings kelangan kong magpalit every 4-5 days. I'm one of those people na acidic yung pawis kaya ika-2nd or 3rd day pa lang ng freshly installed regular strings may rust na at off na yung intonation. Ang workaround ko non para tumagal ang regulars ay punasan ng cloth na binasa ng WD40 bago ilagay sa case pero di pa rin kasing tagal ng Elixir yung life ng string. So in a month naka 3-4 regular sets na ko pero 1 set pa lang ng Elixir. Mas mura pa rin at less hassle ng string change.

Pansin din kaya mga 3 weeks lang palit na agad yung Elixir pero kung regular 3-4 days lang wala na sa tono yung string. Nagulat nga ako na lumalagpas 1 month sa yo yung Elixir, wala na nga sa tono yon. Napansin ko rin na mas nare-retain yung intonation pag heavier gauge yung string. Minsan depende rin sa type at quality ng frets mo cause ng wear and tear ng strings. So pag regular sayo gano katagal umaabot? Kung mahigit 2 weeks swerte mo, pero imo any set of string na past a month of heavy use ay sira na intonation. Anong brand ba ng regulars gamit mo? Baka di ko pa nasubukan yan.
It looks like there are several brands now that offer coated strings. I tried D'Addario EXP (coated) once and that was a complete waste of time and money. Very dull ang tunog sa fresh install. I will try Curt Mangan and Cleartone next time since same price lang naman ng Elixir.

just installed my elixirs yesterday! sarap mag gitara! got it at tom lee's hk for $100. sana magkaroon din ang lyric ng light to heavy gauge (10-52's) dito.

it's been 4 months na ata and my strings feel like new strings as comapred to ernie balls after a week. grabe. really, elixirs for life na ako. :) may gauge 9 set at gauge 11 set na pyramid strings ako. trade ko sa elixirs 10s set nyo. hehe. :P

Interesting.. I find them brighter than most of the other strings I've had (D'addario, Pyramid, GHS, Gibson, Fender, Ernie Ball). It's one of the reasons why I currently have Pyramids on my Strat, which is fairly bright.

I dont know, but as Ive really noticed, d'addario was brighter when installed to my guitar. maybe it depends on the wood of the guitar? Mine has a solid mahogany body with 5pc maple/walnut neck.

Agree. Mas snappy at may high end ang D'Addario (10's) compared sa Elixir (10's). Siguro factor na rin yung coating at yung pagiging stiff ng Elixir.

+1 at medyo nakakapanibago gamitin kasi madulas siya but I use it kasi makakatipid ako. :)
this. aside sa mkakatipid ka, less maintenance pa. no need for regular wiping of fast fret. once or twice a week lang pwede na. :) nakakapanibago lang talaga kung sanay ka sa d'addario. still works fine for me though.

currently playing my newly installed elixirs on my pgm3.. all i can say is 'wow!' superb feel, ang dulas..excellent tone! i guess magtatagal ako sa piling ng elixirs! my observation, it's tougher to bend than d'addarios,eballs,rotos.. ok lang, very little difference lang naman..

My elixirs are now almost 4 months old,namamatay na sya.......sintunado na yung high "E" and "G" string.tsk All those talk about elixirs lasting up to a year is a bunch of crock, maybe to a bedroom guitarist who gig 2-3x a month,but to a gigging musician who plays 4-6x a week, I don't think so. Kung tibay lang pag uusapan, matibay talaga, pero kung stability and intonation, halos pareho lang sa mga ibang major srting brands.

Very subjective parin talaga kapatid. But one good point, walang kalawang, unlike regular strings, one week kalawang na. Or earlier pa. So palit agad.

Agree. Wala namang claim ang Elixir na it would last up to a year. It says on the box 3-5x compared sa regular strings which in my case 1 week kung regular so 3 weeks pag Elixir. Like everything else on the internet, opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. Players in gear forums range from beginners/novices who seldom play their instruments to pro/gigging musicians who play and practice everyday but the kicker is you wouldn't be able to tell by the posts alone.

currently playing my newly installed elixirs on my pgm3.. all i can say is 'wow!' superb feel, ang dulas..excellent tone! i guess magtatagal ako sa piling ng elixirs! my observation, it's tougher to bend than d'addarios,eballs,rotos.. ok lang, very little difference lang naman..
yup I noticed that it's tougher to bend also & sometimes it slips while bending. :-D

Like i said,kung acidic ka at pawisin, regular strings are out,pero kung katulad ko a hindi pnapawisan yung kamay,ok lang regular strings. di kasi kinakalawang ang regular strings saakin.hehehe
lahat ba ng strings nagppeel overtime? 2 na kasing elixir users naeencounter ko na peeled yung wounded strings
Normal lang yun dun sa area na tinatamaan ng pick.

installed elixir polyweb strings on my pseudo-pgm..
ok nga yung feel nya kumpara sa ibang strings but i find the sound very sterile upon turning-up my amp's volume. checked both the clean and driven sounds and tried tweaking my amp and pedal settings but to no avail. my drive pedal sounded like a POS overdrive pedal that lost it's balls in a street fight. (and no, i do not hate OD pedals. i just hate the ones that make their control knobs appear like mere embellishments..) i even used my guitar's treble-compensated volume control to see if it makes it sound any better but it made it sound even worse.
my original objective in testing an elixir string set is to see if it could withstand my awful bends and stay in-tune after a month or so (it's not an issue of me not knowing how to tune a guitar. it's about how the strings yield to the abuse my awful bends give them. of course i know how to tune my instrument. :D).. but after reading what kawayan_strat posted and after what i heard with my own ears for the past 2 weeks, i'm taking these strings off my guitar and perhaps try going back to regular strings. might give pyramid a shot before going back to ernie ball or if budget does not always permit, fernando. :))
perhaps it's not a good idea to combine elixirs with my pickups. might work for some but definitely not for all.

I dont know.. i've been with D'Addarios for 5 years straight, then biglang Elixir, so na-feel ko agad yung difference when it comes to bending. and nag-adjust ako ng truss-rod dahil mas-malakas ang tension ng Elixirs. Anyways, i'm with Elixirs na, no plan of going back to D'Addarios. :)

no difference when using jazz iiis (ernie ball and elixirs). in fact i play easier with elixirs on. ever since i converted to jazz iiis. my picks seemed to last way way longer.

Doesn't seem like it sa akin (VPicks & Jazz III mostly). This is with Elixir & Pyramid, parang wala naman difference in terms of "eating through picks".

2 weeks na new set ng elixirs ko. And somehow hindi pa nababakbak ung coating unlike my 4 sets equipped to my other guitars. Baka ito ung batch na walang coating? Anyways, Im still impressed. Still good as new.

Yung nawalan lang naman ng coating are the plain strings. Hindi naman talaga sila nag-pi-peel. Usually yung wound strings lang, especially pag Polywebs.

Nano. Yup alam ko ung wound lang talaga just like my other guitars. Pero somehow ito hindi pa nagppeel. Or maybe medyo maaga pa di ko masyado nagamit. Pero we had a recording session and I used my guitar for hours. Anyways, kung hindi pa nagppeel, much better.

I personally don't find the peeling bothersome though. Usually naman sa area na tinatamaan ng pick lang siya nangyayari. As long as protected yung areas ng strings above the fretboard, walang problema para sa akin.

Im not bothered either. But one of my guitars I think is getting dark on that part. Probably dark rust or dirt. Anyways, elixir almost doesnt rust. Couple of days ago I checked all of my guitars since I don't use them. Still almost perfect strings but I noticed that the guitars, specifically the woods are getting dried. Even with great strings, guitars still need maintenance. I suggest oil them to get them "hydrated"

Bumigay na yung elixirs ko after 4.5 months! Nag D'Addario ako samantala, habang wala pa yung Eixirs ko. Isa lang masasabi ko.......SUPOT YUNG D'ADDARIO!!! Ang laki ng difference sa tone, ang nipis! I would never go back to generic strings! :razz:

IMO,mas punchy ang tunog ng elixir kumpara sa addario at EB, supot tunog ng addario, lalo na nung nagpalit ako from elixir, sus 2 weeks palang napatidan na ako ng "D" string, bulok! Pero nung ppinalitan ko ng elixir ulit, ayun buti nalang!

had 11 nano's on my main gig guitar for over 2 mon ths- no problems. though i have to maintain the unwound strings with fastfret. impressed enough that i bought a set of 10's phosphor bronze acoustic strings.
cleaning/regular maintenance on my acoustic guitar right now. kasi alam ko pag kabit ng strings, medyo matagal bago ko ma access mga hard to reach places for cleanin g.

yeah! talagang anlaki ng difference. i felt my guitar was 'back' when i put elixir on it! so ayun traded my pyramid set to an elixir set. pyramid works for some people though! for me, it didn't... sounded dead relative to elixir. on my setup ha. basta laki ng difference!

bumili ako ng elixir polyweb 10-46... nakumbinsi ako kasi ung boss ko talagang ung tipong pag isang linggo lng lumipas puro kalawang na strings nya pag D'Addarioo o Ernie Ball... pareho kami pawisin ung kamay... kaso nauna sya magelixir... dun ako nakumbinsi na bumili kasi wala tlgang kalawang tumagal sa knya ngaun 3 months plang pero mukha p din bago.. isipin mo ah... 1 week lng namumulaklak na sa kalawang ung strings nya noon.. ngaun 3 months? gnun katindi...
un nga lang ung sakin di ko pa kinakabit hehe... inaaus ko p kasi ung shielding ng cavity s ibanez RG350DX ko,,, pinalitan ko din ng TESLA PICKUPS, naglagay din ako ng coilsplit switch both sa bridge and neck pickup at nililinis ko pa ung tremolo...
eto lng tanong ko... ok kya pang whammy abuse ung string na to? tsaka etong boss ko napadpad ng raon itong month lng... me nakita daw sya elixir strings 450 lng... wala bang imitation ang elixir strings? kasi kung totoo un sobrang mura nun....

Una walang nagbebenta ng Elixir sa raon orig man o fake. Pangalawa yung mga fender na tig-100php lang yung mga fake string ang mabibili mo dun. Kung may mamemeke man ng Elixir, mahal pa yun sa 450php. :-D
kung pag-aaralan mo maige, makakabili ka na ng 450php genuine Elixir strings, check my sig. Marami nang nakabili sa akin dito bro sila mismo magsabi na orig yung benta ko. :-D

I just tried the nanoweb 9-42 on my RG321 (air classic pups), I noticed na mas less ang 'aw' vocal tone nya.. especially sa upper frets & treble strings.
Tama nga kayo mga bro na medyo full ang treble.. & it feels like I have a bb preamp on all the time. Kaso lang sana hindi bawas ang vocal quality, ok din sana eh.
I might go back to my usual ernie ball slinkys once this set wears down on me (pero mukhang aabot pa ng isang taon ito dahil hindi ako acidic. lol)

Mismo. Eto din ang naranasan ko, especially pag lead lines na may bends biglang nawala ang vocal quality.. Tumigas din ang feel ng kwerdas.. siguro kung 'thin sounding' ang gitara mo, ok siguro siya. Pero kung naturally 'woody' na tunog ng gitara, with elixirs natatanggal niya ang vocal quality

Bro check mo sa link sa sig ko. Depende syo bro. Kung gusto mo super long life, go for polywebs. pero kung gusto mo yung good tone and feel, pero long life pa rin(hindi lang kasing tagal ng polywebs) go for nanos. :-)

former d'addario 10's user here. :) nagshift din ako to elixirs. As for my experience, una mo mapapansin jan is yung brightness difference ng tone when unplugged. mas bright kasi ang d'addarios (unplugged) pero ok naman na when plugged to your rig na.

late January. medyo nadedetune na siya after a couple of songs. i think i need to replace them soon. :-D
Yan ang napansin ko sa acoustic strings na na install ko. Though hindi pa gaano nag accumulate ang rust, medyo nawawala na sa tono which is also a sign that you need to replace it already. But it took some time before it get to to this stage..l so, win pa rin for Elixir! :-D

I have both a new batch of Elixirs some time last Feb and March (both online and Lyric) and have noticed that only after a couple of months the strings are already showing some wears, the others also are being rusty. The sound is still bright and snappy, it's just that they are wearing off quickly compared to the older batches. For some reason I didn't expect this to be with the Elixir's that is why I am wondering if some of you may have noticed.
I have an Elixir that I bought and installed in late 2010 on two of my guitars, up to now the sound is still bright and it even looks newer compared to the newer batches that I bought.

Let's say on average around 1-2hours per day. I don't think we can factor in the weather since the old Elixirs that I have installed way back in 2010 are still intact, the newer ones however are now showing signs of corrosion. I also notice this on one of the guitars of my friend. The sound of the strings are not that affected though. BTW, all of my Elixirs are nanowebs.

Here's what I experienced recently, I installed a new set last 2 weeks if im not mistaken, then after practicing for 2-3 hours a day for 3 not consecutive days, My D string's coating wear off in the picking area. I don't believe that this is just because of my picking or pick because this is the first time I encounter this kind of problem.
Actually hindi naman issue for me yung pag wear agad ng coating on my D string, my complaint is on my treble strings. Ang issue is, after a week of practice (on and off) yung bottom part ng treble strings ko ay tanggal na yung coating and has corrosion na din. Yung mga tear ng string are aligned sa fret wires from 2nd fret up to 24th fret. <_< Sa B string ang worst na wear and tear while minor lang naman G and E string
I don't know what happened, kasi ngayun lang naman to. and my fret wires starting to wear na din. ouch. :eek:

I also noticed that, installed a fresh pack, pero wala pang 2 weeks, naputol na agad. Ibang iba sya sa mga unang labas. I got the Pro Pack BTW.

Lyric does not have the new order of shipment yet, so I believe the batch of lyric sells has no problem. When elixir said there was going to be a problem with the anti-rust, lyric opted not to order any new batches until all was resolve because losing the anti-rust was considered a downgrade and lyric was still establishing the brand in the Philippine market.

I just bought a gauge 12 nanoweb sa Lyric kagabi (wala kasing stock si Xelly) and installed it in my son's Takamine acoustic. Let's see how long it will last.
From the earlier discussions, dapat this should be a good batch dahil Lyric did not order upon knowing that Elixir had an issue with with their anti-rust. And they resumed ordring when Elixir fixed the issue.
Btw, my son's hands are so acidic - mas malala pasa akin. So kung may problem ang na-order ko, I'll know sooner.
Will give you feedback in a few weeks (or months)...

You misunderstood me. I didn't say that current stocks didn't have the anti-rust technology. I definitely understood everything. If you would read my post again, you will probably understand. What I said was:

ahh ok. Had to re-read again. Elixir posted on their site before that they will have a problem with the anti-rust and they will try to resolve asap. They also said before they introduced the anti-rust technology in their strings, they were using plains strings on their packs.

You know what, I just read this thread again and remembered Elixir taking out the antirust on their strings at some point. Guess what, those are the ones that I have hence the corrosion it's getting.
BTW, the ones that I got with no anti-rust are the ones I bought online and not from Lyric, I repeat, NOT from Lyric.
The only thing that disgusts me is that they sold it at the same price, regardless of the price the should stop selling those without anti-rust because that is what separates them from other string companies. It still lasts longer than D'addario's and EB's even without the anti-rust though.

installed a set of these Elixir Nanos, gauge 10 I think, to a Genesis Series stratocaster earlier this year. it was my old guitar I left at home, and my sister uses it once or twice a week.
I played a tune on it yesterday. and wow, even if the three lower and lighter strings were dark and appeared corroded, they still sounded good. it's been more than 5 months since I put them there. and the upper three strings still looked good and sounded well :)

I tried elixir after having used d'addario since taking guitars seriously, damn my sustain got waaaay waaay down. Is it just my technique or is it just the strings that makes the sustain go down?

hmm interesting! yun lang pag nagelixir ka na spoiled ka na sa strings. hehe. :P pero gauge 11 bro if un gamit mo sa heavycores. dont go any lower. i personally not a fan now of thin strings. magupgrade nga ako sa 12s na elixir na eh. nakulangan ako sa 11s for drop b tuning :P

Ah, hindi naman sa intonation yun. Sa action kaya? Baka for some reason yung Elixirs masyadong dumidikit sa frets.
Pa-check mo na rin sa luthier para sure. At least isang gastos na lang tapos matagal mo nang masusulit ang bawat set ng strings na bibilhin mo.

Yung mga stainless steel strings nila ang kumakain ng frets.. kasi mas matigas ang stainless steel kesa sa usual material ng fret wires na nickel.. therfore, mapupudpod talaga.. Pero........... meron din ang Alice na coated strings....parang Elixir..

A-string din naputol sakin but i managed to re-string it back, thanks to Gibraltar bridge. :wink: May spare strings for all gauges sa Lyric stores, i believe 150php ea. Check it out dude.

I havent tried Elixir yet kasi ang dami ko pang stock ng Ernie ball strings. but yan ang choice ng mga musicians sa cruise ships where i used to work. lalo na yung acoustic guitar players. they play 4 hours every night and subok na daw talaga.

I never had that problem on my guitars. The strings just scream.
same here. installed mine last january, last month lang naputol yung b string. bang for the buck talaga. i've heard some say na "kulob" daw yung tunog ng nanowebs, didn't notice it on my guitar though.

another reason why i switched back to my regular ernie's/d'addario.
nanoweb 9s feel like 9.5s/10s. Alice? :-D
also, i never liked nanoweb's treble strings.. no throatiness/vocal tone on bends & solos.
You must have some very sensitive ears. :-(
10s feels good, and the treble strings are less brighter than d'addario, but just like what sir mico said, it screams man!

Recently setup and changed the string of my Viper to Elixir Nanoweb. Tuned to drop C#. Okay now the feel's better. But setting this to E standard will make me 'not like' Elixir again.

I love the saktong brightness of Elixir strings. I finally jammed for the first time in a loud band setting with my RG550EX with gauge 12 Elixir strings and I certainly made the right decision going thicker for drop B tuning.
Those on standard using gauge 9s - try 10s. Bigger and thicker tone.
I do hope they make dedicated 8-string sets. I am going that route and I would of course prefer to have Elixir on my future 8-stringer. Otherwise mukhang Ernie Ball bagsak ko.

Meron naman yatang tingi na sakto ang gauge para sa 8th string ang elixir boss. Naisip ko kasi, bili na lang ako ng 7-string pack then bilin ko yung spare na string para sa 8th.

@dimasalang: Yeah figured that... Yun nga lang parang nakakabitin ang .068 eh. Parang feeling ko mismo yung 0.074 na nasa Ernie Ball eh. And it packs thicker strings for he 7th string din.
Really hope some time soon Elixir does a dedicated set with good gauges for 8-string guitars.

nalagutan na ng hininga yung first set ko ng nanoweb strings. naputol kasi yung high E string. umabot ng 3 months bago bumigay yung resiliency nung high E string. nung lunes lang nawala sa intonation yung octave. superb tone kahit pawala na yung buhay nung strings. :razz:

@ nepenthe - sandpaper grit 600 na folded, just make a few pases,then if you have a lead pencil, just a few strokes on the saddle grooves will help a lot.

What tuning are you planning on?
I generally follow John Petrucci's choice of gauge strings. Thick enough for me physically and tonally:

Drop B (or C# standard) I would recommend gauge 12s. Bitin sa tone and sa playing for me ang 11s.
Whatever gauge you settle on, just make sure to get Elixir. Mismo na mismo.

polyweb user here.
6 months on my tele, no rusting, still smooth as silk feel and tonewise.
then a month ago, a friend shipped 2 sets of Elixir polywebs from SG, installed 1 set on my strat right away, only to find them corroding after a month.
Puzzled, I remember someone mentioning that Elixir had problems with their anti-rust coating supplier and lyric didnt get from that batch or something like that.
then I checked the box from the set I got for my tele which I bought from Lyric, and then compared it with what I got from SG.
same box, only one difference. 8-)

WOOOT!!! ANG SWERTE KO KAHAPON SA SM NORTH EDSA 330 lan ang elixir dun lilipat kasi sila ng trinoma ayun bagsak price ang lhat... im using nano 9-46 mali nadampot dapat 9-42 ... pero ok lan ang ganda nya sa lht ng nagamit ko!!!
I also chanced upon this around three weeks ago, and though I'd never tried Elixirs before then, I'd read enough about them to know that buying a set for PhP 330 was a no-brainer. So I bought a couple of sets of Super Lights--one Nanoweb and one Polyweb to cover all my bases, since I didn't know the difference between them then--and went on my way, excited to know what the hype was all about.
Turns out, there's absolutely no hype! It's been three weeks since I installed the Nanoweb set on my Strat, and the strings literally look and feel the same as they did the day I put them in there. And I'm not using the word "literally" metaphorically here, as seems to be the craze these days--I'm using it really literally.
It seems that my acidic fingers have finally met their match.

Interesting. Do you think Nanoweb 9s are heavy enough to affect intonation? The OC in me is suddenly itching to have my Strat intonated again :lol:
Anong gauge mo ngayon sir? Naka Elixir 10s ako ngayon pero baka this week, palitan ko ng 9s.. check ko kung kailangan ko pa i-adjust yung action and intonation.. :-)

If you are using 9's from the start, intonation will be fine, but if you go to higher gauge, 80% of the time you will need to have your guitar set up to accommodate the heavier gauge.

Naka-Elixir Nanoweb 9s ako ngayon. Dati Rotosound 9s. (Buti naubusan ng stock ng Rotosound 9s ung binibilhan ko, kasi kung hindi, baka hindi ko naisipang subukan ang Elixir :lol:)

My friends on a flat tuning.. he uses 9s.. hahaha..
Dapat sayo Donat ay 14s! :lol:
I was on 11's before when I was using my Les Paul. Kaya lang di ako makapag 11's on my Eclipse, ayoko lang lagyan ng 11's yung Earvana. OC eh. lol. Pero yung RGR naman, standard/drop D tuning using Elixir 10's. Just feels really stiff. Pero wow padin yung string life. Hands down. And no 14's please. Haha!

You will notice bigger volume from that. Strum your old set first remember how it sounds, then slap them elixirs and hear the difference. :)

right now got nano 11's on my acoustic and dean. oks pa rin had em there since march- you still have to make sure to wipe em down a bit.

installed 9's on my guitar November last year. till now it didn't break. still feels and sounds great(felt weird and slippery though the first time i slapped it in). i'm a fairly hard picker.

Using Nanoweb Light gauge on my strat.
It has been 6 months and it's still shiny!
Tho, I clean them before and after use,
Minsan napapa-isip ako, kalokohan na ata toh.

guuhh i purchased my set from xelly and it is costly but would save you heaps in the long run plus it didnt break because of corrosion but from me being too exuberant (broke the 4th string when i chugged away at a planetshaker song)
will purchase a set for my Greco lp and my acoustic

Hello, been wanting to get a set from you for the longest time kaya lang do you meetup at Shang or Megamall?
got to get 2 no 1's at Lyric park square, mejo pricey nga lang at 150 a piece! (sale pa yun).
Shipping single strings are much more expensive than packs. Since Lyric has them, Thank God for that. Check the net prices, single strings of Elixir are pricier.
At least we have options to buy.

Sarap talaga ng feel ng elixirs. 10s nanowebs do the job for me. Kahit nakalipas na 6mons., tunog bago pa din kahit puro himulmol na sa may picking area. Saktong sakto pa pagka-bright para sakin.

I've used Elixir strings for my acoustic guitar a few years back. The reason I bought is because sobra acidic ng pawis ko sa kamay kc kahit isang oras na gamitan lang, may corrosion na kaagad. Pero kahit elixir yung gamit ko, ganun din.. Nakakainggit yung mga gitarista na hindi acidic ang pawis.. :cry:

I have a US Strat and an RGZ which had 9's stock. I tried Elixir 10's on the RGZ and medyo iba yung string pull so added another spring to the tremolo system pero di na sya ganun ka bouncy. Would you recommend going back to 9's or will a custom light set work? I love the 9's on solo's pero would want the 36-46 on strumms.

After 5 months na Elixir lang ang nahahaplos ng mga daliri ko, kagabi nalang uli ako nakagamit ng "normal" na strings at masasabi ko HANEP talaga ang Elixir!!! Ang layo ng difference sound-wise & feel-wise!!!!
Yun din napansin ko. Three months na naman yung set ko pero dun sa luma, parang five months pa bago lumabas ang himulmol.
Hmmm... Parang ang naaalala ko sa akin, nung mga 2nd to 3rd month naglabasan nga yung mga himulmol sa picking area. Pero pagdating ng 4th hanggang ngayon 5th month, wala na. Ewan ko lang pero wala nang himulmol yung sa akin ngayon. :?

I notice the himulmol comes out faster with other picks. The new jazz III's no himulmul, used other picks, i noticed the go faster.

I'm using EJ Jazz III picks. O baka talaga sobrang bigat lang ng kamay ko pag nasa live na. :lol: Pero hindi ganito kabilis naghimulmol yun last set ko ng elixir, w/c lasted a year bago ko pinalitan. :-D

Kung tight budget ka bro, sakto talaga Elixir for you!!! Una nagtatagal siya ng 3-5x longer in terms of tone and feel compared sa normal strings. Yung sa akin 5months na mukhang bago and feel bago pa rin. Tapos ang maganda dahil coated siya parang laging nakapahid ng fastfret yung strings. Kaya masmasarap yung feel at the same time, naiingatan pa yung fretwires mo.

As with most strings, mas tatagal ang buhay pag may maintenance (pinupunasan, etc). With that said, mas tatagal ang buhay ng Elixir for sure..
Pero tinry ko bro na walang maintenance.. nung summer (May 2012), nirestring ko yung LP ko tapos lagi ko ginagamit with no maintenance.. pagkagamit, iwan na yung gitara.. bahala na kung may pawis or what.. tumagal siya hanggang ngayong october.. maayos pa.
Naputulan lang ako ng isang strings kaya pinalitan ko nalang din lahat.. pero kung hindi ako naputulan, tuloy lang..
Yung PRS ko naman, nung March (2012) ko nilagyan ng strings.. pero medyo natengga siya ng mga 2 months nitong August-September.. Ngayon ko nalang ulit nagagamit ng mabuti, less maintenance pa rin.. Ayos pa strings niya. hehe.
To compare, and D'Addario sa akin na may maintenance ay nasa 1 month - 1 1/2 months lang.. kalawang na siya pag ganyan katagal, sablay na rin intonation..

Ang pinaka setback lang sakin nitong Elixir, mas gusto ko pa rin ang sound at feel ng D'Addario.. Haha.. Mas buhay lang siya pag bago saka nagsusustain at maganda midrange niya.. not to mention, mas malambot pa rin siya kahit same gauge..
Mas pinipili ko lang ngayon itong Elixir kasi less maintenance saka nakukuha ng relatively mura.. pati yung araw-araw na feeling bago..

I had this experiment yesterday. We had this seminar sa church and I was tasked with the intro to electric guitars and effects. Usually after ng Praise and Worship ginagamitan ko yung strings ko ng Fast Fret to remove yung pawis and dirt before ko sya i-store. What I did with the Elixir, di ko nilinis and to think na Praise and Worship then yung seminar and dun sa seminar all sizes ang shapes yung nag sample sa guitar so you can imagine yung powder and lotion sa strings :-D
Then yun na nga di ko nilinis until now. Nung unang wipe ko ng Fast fret grabe yung naalis na dirt and foreign materials. Then isa pang wipe and ayun wala na, good as new! Pag sa previous strings ko 3rd wipe na pero me rust pa din. Happy :-D

What are you looking for??? Just a single .011 string??? It is available. The Nanoweb or Polywebs are for the wound strings. The single strings from 9 to 17 example are the anti-rust.

Due to my experience, I was hoping to buy a couple per gauge just in case some of the strings get cut during the month. I know that I might have just suffered from an unusual/uncommon bad set or string. I know it happens regardless of brand but it would turn out to be impractical to change the entire set once again within the month. Also, I would like to point out that the pack used belong to a stash I bought more than 2 years ago and just maybe the age made the string brittle.

I asked the salesperson why it was so and they said that was how they came in. I specifically asked for Nanowebs and they said that the ones they have are the only ones carried. While the string's white envelope does say anti-rust only, I wanted to play safe and get something that was marked Nanoweb. Because of the confusion and uncertainty, I just got 2 each of 11s to 28s. :-(

The 11's no problem for they are anti-rust, nano or poly they are fine. for the gauge with wound strings, you choose nano and poly. you're fine. I apologize for the confusion and uncertainty.

1st string lang ba talaga ang pwedeng bilhin ng paisa-isa sa lyric? hindi pwedeng from 1st to 3rd string (10, 13, 17 gauge)?

All Elixir strings from the first to the 3rd strings are all the same which are anti rust, whether they be phosphor bronze or 80/20 bronze or electric, nanoweb or polyweb uses are the same. They only differ on the bass strings i.e (4,5,6,7)

just finished setting up my tele for elixir 10s and.....
OMG :-o
di na ako babalik sa uncoated strings silky smooth yung may nanoweb coating yung anti rust strings medyo medyo di ganun ka dulas pero okay na din pero pansin ko medyo mas stiff sya kesa sa D'Addario :-D
hopefully na tatagal sakin to ng 6 months or better 1 year :-P

maganda pala ang nanoweb sa shred/fusion type guitars, kakalagay ko lang sa hydra. kaso may chip na agad sa 19th fret out of the box. mukhang nag iba na ata ang quality ng elixir ngayon?

Mismo yan Xelly, lakas ng volume niyan kaysa regular strings!!! I've tried cleartone sa acoustic, personally they suck on my book, they kinda stick to your fingers and is screechy when chord to chord. And they die quick, freaking expensive pa.

tatagal yan! pag uncoated ginagamit ko nun 1 week lang me kalawang na... yung elixir na gamit ko ngayon february 2012 ko pa to kinabit, maganda pa din tunog ngayon...

Kakakabit ko lang ng Elixir 11s for acoustic sa acoustic guitar ko. Usually kapag normal na string, kapag bagong kabit yun sa gitara ayaw ko hawakan yung strings kasi magdedeteriorate agad. Pero sa Elixir walang ganung feeling!! Harabas agad!! Sarap!!
Bought 2 sets of Elixir 10s from Sir Xelly (1 for me and a friend)... kinabit ko sa aking pinakamamahal na Elegee LP... and I was freakin blown away by the sound... napakacrispy (siguro dahil sobrang luma na nung string ko dati)... at napakasaral sa kamay :wave: :wave: :wave:
Was planning to get them from a local shop here in my area pero it was too damn expensive (Php900 supplied by Lyric), pero nung nakita ko yung benta ni Xelly umorder agad ako :-D :-D :-D
Di ako nagsisi sa pagswitch to Elixir. And I will buy another set pag may stock na ulit si sir :lol: :lol: :lol:
and the price was f@#$%& affordable!!!
Ernies|Addario + heavy use = change of strings almost every month or twice a month Elixir + heavy use = magpalit ka in a month kung kaya mong wasakin :lol: :lol: :lol:
